Japan 2018 - Gifu Kakamigahara Aerospace Science Museum

Post by Draken »

Hi,
when you are around Gifu Airbase - The Kakamigahara Aerospace Science Museum is an absolute must.
Fantastic place with plenty of unique pieces, very photo friendly. There is also great museum shop with a lot of JASDF stuff.

Hard to select the best pieces...

What a collection of aircraft photos and an aircraft recognition nightmare!

Any idea what the four engine amphibian is?

I guess I should've added types to the pictures ;)
The amphibian is the prototype of Shin Meiwa UF-XS, transformed in development to ShinMaywa US-1A (pic 8.)
The other 4engine monster is Kawasaki C-1/QSTOL Asuka - first (and last) Japanese attempt to STOL transport plane.

Great shots, Tom! I'm now looking forward to visiting here even more when I go next week.

What focal length were the big aircraft taken at?

Thanks!
All taken with C7DmkII and C10-22, so it would be 16mm on short end. Getting the boat in frame was quite a challenge.

Great, thanks for that, I'll make sure I pack the wide angle lens.

Crikey, what a place. Now that's how to do an aircraft museum!

Typical Japanese museum, spotless. You could eat your dinner off the floor or indeed the exhibits.
