Post by Euan Buchan »

I heard on The Red Arrows Facebook page there will be a documentary about The Red Arrows on the 9th January on Channel 5. This will be exciting.

Agreed, thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely seems more ‘behind the scenes’ than past RAFAT documentaries, looking forward to the next one!

Good program.Wasnt too dramatic with the narration and a showing of behind the scenes.
A point of interest for me was the photo album. The pilot that hit the stray yacht mast was my pilot in an aerobatics flight bought for my birthday. He was a real nice guy.

Caught it on catch up TV.

Episode 1 was excellent and it is doing a very good job of showing the team as a bunch of "normal" guys and gals which I think is quite good.

I actually really enjoyed that first episode. Apart from the ubiquitous trait of modern documentaries constantly repeating themselves grating just a little - it was really well done.

I never knew about the incident with Montenegro and Ling a few years ago. Mad stuff.

I'd sooner take a positive attitude to any new aviation documentary appearing on one of the main channels, seeing how few there usually are. And as it turns out, this was truly behind the scenes, not blighted by rubbish music or awful OTT commentary style, warts and all (Accidents aside, I don't think I've ever seen footage of a display simply going wrong before) and looks as if it will be really good series overall. Very welcome.

Enjoyed the first episode, looking forward to the rest.

Very interesting to see the behind-the scenes stuff and their public interaction.

Just before Christmas my wife and I were at the Baldock Services (couldn't be bothered to cook that day so 'treated' ourselves to a KFC). Anyway, the entire Red Arrows team and a lot of their mechanics (all in their customary Red and Blue flightsuits) came in and pretty much bought out the McDonalds there. I looked on their website and they had just been to Great Ormond Street Hospital for the kids Christmas party. I guess they didn't have enough sausage rolls there lol ! Anyway, they all took time out for various selfies and were very happy to chat with people as they queued up. All seemed quite surreal at the time. That new Team Leader was there, he's a tall guy for sure lol !

Sorry, just had to share ;-)

This is one of the better Aviation Documentaries I have watched in recent times, very informative about how the Team operates behind the scenes. Top Marks and look forward to watching the remaining episodes.

Really enjoyed reading your account of seeing the Team at KFC Airwolfhound not everyday you see the Reds at a fast food restaurant, well done.

It was good. Interesting to see so many admissions of nerves from the red suited ones. Not something you expect from steely-eyed fighter pilots but changed days.

I thought the programme was excellent. Having worked with them for six years 40 years ago, it was interesting to see how much things had changed in that time. I am looking forward very much to seeing what next week has to offer. Robin.

I'm liking the documentary so far, it seems a lot more in depth than other series that have gone before and I liked how candid they were about the synchro accident a few years back.

The only downside for me is the commentary. It just sounds a bit patronising and dumbed down to me, although it could just be how the guy says the words. Other than that, it's pretty good.

Compared to the narration on the 'Britain's Ultimate Pilots' series, it's a work of Shakespeare..!
