Congratulations to the Navy Wessex team - hope they are celebrating this tonight. Look forward to seeing it on the circuit next year.
Re: Wessex 'XT761' Permit Issued
Great news. I remember seeing a Navy Wessex display at a park fete in Romford in the early/mid 1980's.
Would be good to see one displaying again

Great news and congratulations to all involved. Not wishing to steal their thunder but is the Whirlwind still flying? I was hoping to see it at Duxford and it would be great to see them together next season.
Re: Wessex 'XT761' Permit Issued
When was the last time we had a flying Wessex in the country as I’m not sure I’ve seen one fly before either?
Re: Wessex 'XT761' Permit Issued
UK Wessex's retired in 2002, although 84 sqn. ones (Cyprus) came back to UK the following year.
Re: Wessex 'XT761' Permit Issued
Might be even later than that? Was there not one from, iirc, Ghana under overhaul at Biggin a few years ago? I think I recall seeing some grainy mobile phone pics of it in the air a few times between now and 2014, and I think it was on static at last year's show. 9G-AEL, I think it is.
Great news about XT761 - I've been hugely excited about this project for some time.

Fantastic! Can't wait to see her.
Not wanting to sound greedy after such a positive announcement; but does anyone know what the current situation is for 9G-AEL?

Apparently HACs DH9 has also received its permit to fly and should fly this week (weather permitting).

Re: Wessex 'XT761' Permit Issued
Last ever flight of the Wessex in RAF service was 20th Feb. 2003 Brize Norton to Shawbury being the former 84 Sqn ones from Cyprus. There is footage of their retirement ceremony on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k88VvVGi04

Re: Wessex 'XT761' Permit Issued
You're right. My mistake on that. I've gotten it confused with something else. (Whirlwind?)
Wessex must have been on static.

Whirlwind was flying, hehe.
Easily done, no worries.
