D-day stripes

Post by st24 »

Just wondering if it's worth keeping a log of any D-day commemorative striped aircraft to highlight the efforts being made by several air arms and also to highlight the (current) complete lack of anything from the UK.
Add to as and when including links where possible
https://twitter.com/15WAirTransport/sta ... 17954?s=19
Belgian C-130 CH11, (525 Sqn)
Belgian F-16x2 FA124 349Sqn, FA72 350Sqn
Norwegian F-16 691
French AF Rafale (dual Tiger)... /30-GN
4? USAF RS C-130s 78608,
3 USAF LN F-15s "010" 493FS, "603" 494FS, "219" 492FS
USAF 100ARW KC-135R (no stripes but ww2 codes and old style star and bar)

I'd be surprised if the Canadians don't do something; perhaps the Herc due for RIAT??..

Go on RAF, why not another Typhoon in D-Day Stripes? Looked quite good in 2014?

wouldn't mind an RAF C-130 in camo green with D-day stripes on the wings and rear fuselage,
maybe with some C47 type nose art to truly reference it with the aircraft involved?

Another Typhoon would be nice, maybe referenced to a Typhoon that flew in the war?

However, in this day and age where individuality and actually doing something positive P.R. wise (apart from giving presenters rides in jets) is almost dead, its left to the USAF and Europe to put the RAF to shame, yet again.

Only two RS C-130s, no USAF C-17. There's a few CONUS based USAF stuff that's been painted too.

Threshold.aero have a full list in their data centre.

It seems the decision makers in the RAF these days are hell-bent on pursuing the corporate, sterile, joyless image and with that comes an apparent unwillingness to commemorate, celebrate or recognise their past in any visible way.

I’d be very happy to be proved wrong, but after last year’s farce I highly doubt that I will be.

Surely the BBMF Dakota at least could have invasion stripes added?

Oh poos, I didn't actually look it up.

Anyway, the more the merrier.

Invasion invasion stripes. Just paint the whole thing like a zebra.

In fact, just fly a zebra this year.

I don't think painting a couple of black and white stripes on an aircraft would break the bank.

This is the MoD we’re talking about. They’d probably sign a contract at £1m per stripe.

Not after the last one...

The day we can fly at least one serviceable aeroplane of each type in the RAF simultaneously would be nice to see though.

Agree with Caper..... maybe a small red sticker on the tail mentioning the anniversary date os something equally as dumb.

I know i'm exaggerating but at the moment it looks like pretty much every country in the world is making an effort except the UK?

Whats up boys? so devoid of passion for your forefathers fantastic deeds, you just shrug and go 'me-h'?
Where is the passion? Although granted that might have been beaten out of you.
Yes i know its the mucky mucks that make these decisions, but as loads have been so painted and shown off, dont you think a leak here and there to the newspapers, and perhaps some questions in the house might just get them off their jacksies?

All this and we didnt get a point at Brexitvis.....oh sorry, Eurovision.
