No definite sources quoted, but rumours on other sites suggest that today is a rest day, before they head off home tomorrow.

What came through the Daventry corridor at 8:47 this morning then? I have to add that the NOTAMs are not the b-all and end-all of B-52 spotting (although I am grateful for your help). On Monday, for exaample, it was supposed to be until 16:00 but what did I see going back at about 17:45?

Post on Milscanners says there are a pair of U-2s inbound Fairford. Just checked the NATS website & there's no NOTAM up.

Just flown low over Bury St Edmund's....there were 4 smoke trails on the go but hopefully all is ok. First time I've seen one over here since the Mildenhall Air Fete days!

Make that 4 circuits over the town. I'm guessing they're burning off fuel?

I'm guessing the same one has just passed overhead again, heading north. 4 engines were smoking it was about 4000ft I would estimate.

I've no idea why you guys are continuing to post this in the Fairford NOTAM section, it's going to land at Mildenhall - that's in Suffolk!
It'll be leaving 6 smoke-trails behind, not just 4.

Reminds me of an old story about a young over-selfconfident F-16 pilot, that just joined his first front line squadron. He intercepted a B-52 and was trashtalking to the bomber-crew that whatever they would do, he could do better. The BUFF men said "OK, let's see". And the two aircraft remained flying together for a few minutes. Then the fighter jockey asked what would be so difficult for him to do better. The bomber replied that he shut down two engines and remained flying.

As per Arno's post....DRAGON 22, so a U-2
Confirmed on the Fairford Movements website (
https://ffdmovements.blogspot.com/ )
No idea why such a long timeframe on the NOTAM, can only presume something else is due in.

Thanks for the heads-up Flanker. Do we know how long they are in the area for?
