RAF Cosford Air Show 2020 Wish List

Post by BossMann »

The date for the next RAF Cosford Air Show will be Sunday 14th June 2020

What would we all like to see at the RAF's only official air show in 2020?

I personally would like to see increased foreign participation building upon the trends set over the past few years by Peter and the team.

Foreign fast jet demos / helicopters would be great as well as foreign 'heavies' - can the Italian C27 operate from RAF Cosford?

It would be great to see more foreign aerobatic teams at RAF Cosford too - the big three ( Reds/ Frecce/ Patrouille de France ) haven't been seen together at RAF Cosford since the 1990s I think.

The foreign teams that fly piston/ turbo props that can can operate from RAF Cosford make a big impact too - Swiss Team PC7, Jordanian Falcons, Polish Team orlik ( never been to Cosford), Croatian Wings of storm ( never been to cosford), Irish team silver PC9x4 ( never been to Cosford), Moroccan Marche Verte ( never been to Cosford), Belgian Red Devils...

Can the Breitling Jets/ team Apache L39s operate from RAF Cosford like they did at Duxford?

The Spanish Patrulla ASPA helicopter team would also look great at RAF Cosford - only appeared once in the UK at waddo in 2014

Hopefully the team will announce the themes of next years show soon - maybe VE day 75th anniversary & 80th anniversary of Battle of Britain?

Good luck to Peter and the team for 2020!

RAF Cosford Air Show Wish List

Post by Adamwilliams132 »

Cosford has been getting better as a show in the past few years and the team have done a great job of trying to please everyone.

Themes for next year 75 years since VE Day is surely going to be a big theme for next year.
It’s also 85 years since the first flight of the Hurricane , Anson and Blenheim so maybe they could attend.

As has been said above by Bossmann any foreign display team that can operate from Cosford. I really enjoyed the Danish team this year.

More support from the RAF and Navy It would be great to see a Herc , Atlas or even A C-17 land taxi then take off again and do a flypast or 2. Would that still need to be classed as a display ? Things arrive and take off during RIAT all the time that aren’t in the flying display ?
A full line up of serving helicopters would also be nice to see from the RAF and Navy and the return of the Black Cats. Believe I read somewhere they hope to be a 2 ship display next year.

The static and acts operating from Cosford will always be limited by the runway length. So this is a semi realistic wish list. Obviously doubt there would be room to park them all if they did all turn up.
Static or flying
Osprey
MC-130
RAF Herc
RAF Atlas
RAF Puma
RAF Chinook
Apache (be nice if you could tempt a Dutch one over)
Juno and Jupiter from shawbury
Texan-2
Navy Lynx
Navy Avenger (king air)
Navy Merlin
Return of the Hawk T2 role demo.
A Flypast from a rarer RAF type, new P-8 , Rivet joint, E3 Sentry or Shadow R1
At least a flypast if not a short display from the F-35.
Plenty of warbirds for the 75 years end of WW2 theme with a Duxford style balbo.
Wessex and Whirlwind displaying.
Rich Godwins Pitts display (none better and Cosford is a family show)

Any foreign participation be it static or flying would be most welcome would be nice to see a nation that haven’t been to Cosford before. Like the Pakistani Herc that never quite made it a couple of years ago.

V-22 static and flying would be excellent and doable.

They managed the Mig-29 last year... so why not a Flanker in 2020!?

Oh and another sensible suggestion... Croation Wings of Storm - a long way for them to come I know - but they're a great little team.

The thread title does say 'Wish List' - how realistic are you expected to be on these threads?

If you are allowed to go mad then put me down for a joint Concorde/ SR-71 flypast! :lmao:

Swiss PC-7 team were stunning a few years back, hope they can make it over again. What is great about modern Cosford is that we don't see the same things over and over again - that's what makes it unique. We had the Swiss F18 in 2015, Italian Tornado in 2017, Rafale last year and Gripen this year. The variety is what makes it and I can't wait to see what they pull out of the bag next year.

It would be nice if the elusive Cyprus Air Force could bring one of their SAR helicopters this way as well......

Forgot to mention above but ....

The Spanish Harrier pair would be amazing at RAF Cosford - could they operate from the base too or would they have to go RAF Shawbury?

Regarding Couteau Delta - if they reform in 2020 it would be great to have them as Ramex Delta were due to appear at RAF Cosford one year and then cancelled last minute due to weather I think??? if not then the French Air Force sent a Rafale Duo role demonstration to the Turku Airshow this year which would do nicely, or even the French Navy Rafale Marine pair.

French air force Rafale C Pair - Tac Demo at Turku Airshow 2019:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIy1Qh13x1M

Has the RAF Cosford Airshow ever had a full display from a USAF type ?

Which aircraft types can actually operate from RAF Cosford? or is the issue that in 'airshow mode' there isn't much parking space for display aircraft?

Can the base handle a C17 for static? I know they had C130 and A400M on static previously.

I'll tell you what would absolutely be 4-toast; a flypast(s) by one, or both, of the Martin Baker Meteors.

From the zeltwig air power livestream, the Czech Fying Bulls team flying 4 x XA42 were really impressive and would be great at RAF Cosford.

Plus I don't believe they have appeared in the UK before so could be a UK debut too.

Have the Breitling Jets ever displayed at RAF Cosford? Hopefully they will still be displaying in 2020 with alternative sponsorship or may revert to the 'Team Apache' name. Would be great to see them operate and display from RAF Cosford too.

Good luck to Peter and the team for 2020

Yes, in 2005. They showed well, in not the best weather of the day. Which I could say about a lot of stuff at Cosford over the years!

Patrulla Aspa would be nice, or the rumoured re-formed Silver Swallows from Ireland. In the civvy world, the Patrouille Tranchand would be most welcome.

One of Cosford's strengths is its variety year on year, so I'm sure we'll see something different!

They won't be coming back next year unfortunately:

I am hoping that the team will continue in 2020 but with maybe with different sponsors/ no sponsor - they may revert back to their name pre-Breitling, back to 'La Patrouille Apache' reflecting their parent company's name.

If they do I hope we can see them at Cosford again ( last appeared 2005 )

RAF's only airshow deserves to get more jet formation teams and I hope they will attract more foreign display teams in 2020

RAF Cosford Airshow 2020 clashes with.....

The Danish Air Force air show at Karup
French Air Force Meeting De L'air at Cognac

Will be interesting to see what foreign displays RAF Cosford can get - will it be the 'RAF's official Battle of Britain 80th anniversary airshow'?

If they have one, probably not. That'll likely be RIAT.
