Oshkosh 2019. the first edits (Updated 23Sep)
Oshkosh 2019. the first edits (Updated 23Sep)
Well it was a month ago and I have finally cleared the backlog so I can start editing down the 5,000 odd pictures that I took at Airventure 2019.
Here's a small selection...
N839WA Epsilon, one of about six that were on the field with a towering CB that dropped a lot of rain over Fond du Lac on Saturday night
N839WA Epsilon, Oshkosh by Wallace Shackleton, on Flickr
N35MK Mosquito. This is former Strathallan Mossie which has not flown for years, it still makes me sad when I remember this in the good days.

NL5420V P-51, one of the many that were here. A total of 18 managed the tribute to Bud Anderson later in the week.

N51ZW P-51, sunset in the Mustang creche is a beautiful experience. No "Joe Public" wandering into your shots, just a small number of photographers respecting each others right to be there
N51ZW P-51, Oshkosh by Wallace Shackleton, on Flickr
17-46035 KC-46. Monday night during the balloon glow. A hand-held, high ISO, 24 shot median stack composite to get the walking public out of the shot. Only got two, which isn't so bad.

NX7160C T-28 One of three on the Warbirds ramp that night.
NX7160C T-28, Oshkosh by Wallace Shackleton, on Flickr
N2805J AC-47. Well maybe not a real one but it looks like one. Another sunset shot with some fine warbirds for company
N2805J AC-47, Oshkosh by Wallace Shackleton, on Flickr
There will be a lot more to come but they will take some time to edit down and process.

Sunset P-51 is an absolute beauty.

Agree with the previous response, the P51 sunset is great.

Here's a couple more....
Another multi image High ISL Median stack image this time of the three (or four) pitts aircraft inside the lobby of the EAA building
EAA Pitts by Wallace Shackleton, on Flickr
Who says the Mustangs have the monopoly on sunset shots?

Lovely stuff so far-keep em coming !! - Think the Pitts may be Christensen Eagles though.

You may be very right about the Pitts...

Another one from the early edits...
This one is for the real anoraks, a C-49 no less up on Pioneer Field

Who says you need a big fancy camera to come away with the shots. After a few days my main camera got too heavy to lug around in the heat, so I swapped to my old trusty Fuji X-Pro1 for the day.
Thanks to a friend I got an unusual view of the United Dreamliner taking off. There was another photographer nearer the action than the guy in the foreground.

A piccie of a Spitfire for a change.
The other Warbirds park further to the back making the classic clean sunset shot that wee bit harder

A tribute was organised at Oshkosh for Col. Bud Anderson, involving 18 P-51 Mustangs.
I tried a wee experiment a pano with the long lens, it will give you a flavour of the occasion.
I left the bits of the landing, photo-bombing O-1 Bird-dog in the background

Did you by any chance get the registration of the Epsilon 315/YP/125?

The editing process is slowly rolling on towards the end of Airventure 2019, with Friday 26th and this cracking F-84C up at Pioneer Field along with some other Cold War jets.
It seemed like a good idea to go up to Pioneer Field and shoot the jets, it wasn't such a good idea to feed so many damn mosquitoes in the process!

The reflected light off the red runway spot giving a strange effect to the trailing smoke.
Only two more days to edit down before the final selections are made and then it's the long slog to process them all. Rest assured they will not all be posted here!

Slightly off topic except that the truck has three engines mounted on it from a Buckeye.

I've seen the Shockwave truck several times now......never been quite sure what to make of it, but probably 'only in America!'

Three aircraft in formation and yet roughly 40 years apart

I'd be grateful if anyone has the serial for the F-22 as all I can read off the tail is 1st OG

Another one pulled out the pile.
Corsair, N713JT. Unusually in a sunset good position for a sunset pic. Taken on the Saturday evening before the night show

Finally catching up with the selection process, on my final day...
The sun setting on a T-34 towards the end of the day, killing time before the night show starts. The X-Pro1 is a very capable little camera...so long as it does not move fast!
