Beautiful weather for the time of year and lots of flying and many many people - does anyone know the number of people? The four TFC aircraft out on the grass were nice to see as well. The service at 11 was well attended, but it seemed most people did not know where this was taking place. A very large crowd down the fence line for the 2:20 poppy drop.
Great day.

Duxford Sunday 10th November:

HAC's Spitfire V departed this morning for an event at Abingdon and gave a graceful display on return:

Image

Both Aero Legends' Spitfires also departed early, to North Weald, and Mustang 'Sharkmouth' was out for some exercise:

Image

As noted earlier, the Blenheim had been modified to drop 82,000 poppies.

Part of TFC's fleet was out in the sunshine for inspection:

Among the visitors was Nanchang CJ-6A G-BXZB in Sri Lankan markings:

Nice side on pic of the Sea Fury. Such a handsome but big and brutish Aircraft.

Great to see the DD has found a home, and excellent to see many of the regular contributors jumping ship too. I think a dedicated historic section would be an excellent move. To not take advantage of the influx of new members would be an opportunity missed - a real potential to breath some new life into the forum.

To tack on some photos from Sunday 10th, also active in the evening was G-AGJG, G-ARUL and G-BSAJ. Really unusal to see these aircraft operating so late in the day!

And overlooking Duxford on return in 'JG, many thanks to Mark Miller for the seat!

This and the Spit currently flying around the world would be a sight to see in a duo
I’m sure it would be a highly polished performance

Duxford Thursday 14th November:

Today saw a significant birthday for the IWM Lightning F.1A XM135, which first flew 60 years ago on this day in 1959.
Next Wednesday will see another landmark for this second production Lightning, 45 years since her arrival at Duxford on 20-11-74.
That delivery flight (and I can't find a picture of it) marked completion of 1,343 flying hours, all but 12 minutes being flown by qualified pilots. If there's anyone who hasn't read the account of Taffy Holden's astonishing exploit, just search online for an account.

My earliest pic dates from 19-4-77:

Here she is yesterday in Airspace:

David - I've read accounts which say that the aircraft still bears scars from this flight - is that true? - Any chance of a pic?!

It's well worth a read if anyone doesn't already know the story.

XM135 was fully repaired after the 'incident', the damaged tail bumper was replaced (and retained by the pilot !). Looking at the tail today, it does indeed look damaged, maybe it had another tailstrike nearer to retirement.

Duxford Friday 15th November:

The IWM CASA 2.111 will be moving to Hawkinge soon. Some shuffling in Hangar 5 today has started to make room for the move:
