Re: Duxford Diary 2020
If you want to be really picky, the original looks like an unfilleted P51D. It would be unwise to make the modern representation fly less well just for verisimilitude though!

44-13779 did receive the fillet later as the picture in the link shows...

Re: Duxford Diary 2020
Thank you for finding this! I remember reading that a lot of early aircraft were modified "in the field". I find it remarkable that so many photos exist of this Mustang at different times and in different states, although Don Blakeslee was a well known pilot and presumably a press favourite.MUSTANG wrote: ↑Sat 27 Jun 2020, 6:31 pm44-13779 did receive the fillet later as the picture in the link shows...

Thank you to the Aircraft Restoration Company for the Spitfire display this afternoon, and for the fantastic work supporting our NHS.

Apparently they forgot to send Dan Friedkin the memo saying that Legends has been cancelled.

You don't see that kind of formation all that often...not even at Oshkosh!
Nice one.

Re: Duxford Diary 2020
No photos but this is a diary! As part of the preparations for reopening on the 1st a number of volunteers and some of the preservation staff have been busy dusting and cleaning. I spent a few hours with a feather duster and soft paintbrush getting up close to various exhibits in H3 today which are less dusty than beforehand! That some owls have taken up residence has, as you can imagine, left a few other markers which also have to be cleaned.
H4 has been rearranged and was in the final throes of having new information points added.
For those of you with an interest in WW2 Luftwaffe fighters in an original and untouched colour scheme, well you’ll like what has been added to the entrance to Airspace.

Re: Duxford Diary 2020
Thanks for that update. I check the site every day and appreciate the information. Looking forward to seeing the sights.
Would love to dust those exhibits myself, but being in South Australia makes the commute a tad difficult.

Re: Duxford Diary 2020
Until Duxford reopens to the public (1st August) there will be little in the way of photos - only recent shots have been taken from outside the site.
Underneath my gruff exterior lies an even gruffer interior...

Duxford Sunday 2nd August:
The 'NHS' Spitfire was busy again today, with a flypast at Silverstone just before the Grand Prix:
Several aircraft were practising for Tuesday's Showcase Day, including Dragon Rapide G-AGJG and Chipmunk WK522:
Joining in the fun was Yak 50 F-AZXK (based at Duxford for a few weeks):
Cassutt G-BPVO will also fly on Tuesday:

Re: Duxford Diary 2020
Non existent. The NHS Spitfire started up on Saturday and it was a shoulder to shoulder rugby scrum at the M11 end. Doesn't bode well for social distancing for showcase/airshow days. Visitor entrance now has two ques. What used to be the Members Entrance is for non ticket holders, who have to wait to see if all the slots for that half hour period have not been sold out before they can get in. If it has then you have to wait for the next half hour slot, etc. The other que is for ticket holders. The central doors are exit only. No social distance markings along the crowd line, or even the footpaths around the site. Hangar 2 has a one way system but non of the other hangars do. Entrance to AirSpace is obstructed with large box like structures with video screens in them and there is no space for 2 meter separation and if you stop to read them you create choke point. As for face coverings, more people without than with although the rules for that change on Saturday, again.

Re: Duxford Diary 2020
Totally agree about that mega-information board in AirSpace - and I was manning the damn thing for a couple of hours. I will say most people going into AirSpace were putting face coverings on as they were entering.
A big issue was the ticket availability for Concorde; they are only allowed 48 people a day (yes a day) to go through and it needs regular closing to clean. The idea is that you get a ticket (one of those supermarket tickets you get for your turn at the deli counter type) but they had soon gone. We had to deal with a number of disappointed visitors - especially from about 11.30 on when all the tickets had gone. Part of the problem is that Concorde is not an IWM exhibit and is manned through another group. (but who still gets the grumbles?!)
