An interesting idea - not sure how it would cope in inclement weather or how much kit they could carry though.

Re: Jet suit paramedic tested in the Lake District
Something like this is definitely worth looking into, although the last time I saw a bloke using the gravity jet pack a couple of years ago, one of the engines blew out and he flipped over and crashed into the sea. (luckily for him)
if they can get the reliability sorted it could be a useful tool, and would probably become less cumbersome over time.

Having seen Lake District mountain rescue in action, both day and night, I'm in awe of their commitment, skill, dedication... and fitness. Any tool that makes their job easier has to be a good thing. Having said that, using a jet pack seems to be a solution looking for a problem. The big issue is the lack of redundancy which means any failure would lead to two casualties rather than one. There are solutions, they are just a few years further down the line.
Ignoring practicality, jet packs are awesome

As had been said the lack of equipment that the jet pack flyer can carry will make it of little practical use. Perhaps the funding and training for such equipment could be used to provide a drone surveillance system that would allow the on foot teams to find the injured quicker. Assuming the injured is able to help themselves small packages of medical supplies, or a mobile phone could be delivered.

There was a piece on BBC Breakfast this morning about this. A paramedic said that it should be possible to carry as much kit as a motorcycle paramedic.

Does this mean we'll be getting the jetpacks we were promised on Tomorrow's World, in the 60's.
Hopefully not to long before we'll be going to cities on the moon.

"Nice pics mate" comments only! No criticism please.

I think you'll be able to go to the moon before you get your jet-pack.
Jets are simple things, keep feeding then with fuel and they'll go on forever... until something breaks. You don't want to be wearing one when it breaks. You definitely don't want to be travelling at speed and height above a big sharp rock when it breaks.
Within the next decade there'll be a tool that won't kill the passenger if something breaks. It'll be awesome too, but not quite as awesome as a jetpack.

There was a guy on the JV show on Radio 2 who makes them (how cool is that job by the way) and although they don't normally sell them to whoever, they did flog one to an American guy for £300k. He keeps it in the UK and uses it 'from time to time' apparently.
