Re: VTTS purchase another Canberra
I assume, someone is putting two and two together and coming up with five.....
The fact that WT327 is fitted with the original nose section of WK163, and has been bought by a UK museum, I suspect people are assuming that 'UK musuem' to be VTTS....
On the assumption they intend to re-unite the original nose section with the rest of WK163, as well as providing a spares source for WK163.......the new American owner of the other one having already tweeted that he had been told WT had been bought by the UK museum to part it out for spares.

Another one to go next to the sewage works?

Re: VTTS purchase another Canberra
You mean another one to sit next to the sewage works deteriorating slowly, while they try and raise cash for 163 (wasnt so long ago that was flying was it?)
However, putting 163 back together , whenever that happens, using its original nose, does have merit. shame if they dont bring the whole airframe back but can understand it if they are tightening their belts accordingly.
However as the canberra that has 163's nose was flying not too long ago, maybe getting that airworthy might be a better option? At least 163's nose will fly.

i'd have thought talk of 163 wouldnt be banned, only talk of the 'other' thing.

Which is why the thread is still open, though, as far as I can tell there’s no official confirmation that VTTS has purchased it, so I’ll amend the title and move to the Historic section.

Not aware of any applications (so far) to display whichever nose is spare at Cockpit-Fest 2021!

I don't think WT327 was flying that much (if at all) after WK163 last flew?HeyfordDave111 wrote: ↑Fri 13 Nov 2020, 10:47 amHowever as the canberra that has 163's nose was flying not too long ago, maybe getting that airworthy might be a better option? At least 163's nose will fly.
From what I can gather, these two in USA haven't flown since about 2003/4, and wasn't WK airworthy until about 2001/2 time at Coventry?

Pretty sure I saw WK163 fly at Waddington in 2003. Might have been the only time I saw it.

Re: Canberra WT327 to the U.K.
The permit lapsed in 2008, so that would suggest it was last flown a year or so before that. The VTTS website mentions it suffering an engine failure in 2007. It was certainly flying at the Coventry air show in 2003

Re: Canberra WT327 to the U.K.
Wasn't it stuck at Waddington after the 2007 show? It was definitely there.
Re: Canberra WT327 to the U.K.
That rings a bell.....engine problem wasn't it, and they couldn't find any other 100(?) Series Avons with paperwork anywhere, which was why it never flew again....?capercaillie wrote: ↑Fri 13 Nov 2020, 5:16 pmWasn't it stuck at Waddington after the 2007 show? It was definitely there.

Thanks for allowing the thread. As Mike says i'm privvy to VTTS information and have shown them up quite a few times in the past (sorry UKAR!).
But yes, WT327 has been purchased by VTTS, unable to confirm if its heading to the UK thought as of yet.

Re: Canberra WT327 to the U.K.
Interestingly, I spotted yesterday, slightly old news that earlier this year, the Temora Aviation Museum have successfully converted their TT.18 Canberra to electric start, and were doing engine runs with a view to getting it flying again, although Covid has put a brake on any notion of public displays for the time being. It was the first ever electric engine start conversion on a Canberra, and when flying again, will be the only civilian flying Canberra outside of the NASA B-57's.

Not only have Temora converted the TT.18 to electric start, they also got some shiny new engines for it.
As for the RAE jets hopefully they haven't suffered too much, sat out in all the joys of Californian weather.

Well done the Aussie's
Re: Canberra WT327 to the U.K.
They want a little bit more of it than that as already mentioned, they want the whole front section which is the original one from WK163.
If they had any real intention of putting WK back in the air, they'd be taking the whole thing as a spares source, but I can think we can be pretty sure the chances of WK ever flying again are pretty much nil in the circumstances....although I'm sure they'll say otherwise.
Re: Canberra WT327 to the U.K.
WK will never fly again, as VTTS have done a declaration of no flight with the CAA on it, and the tin triangle, the cost implications to reverse this would be phenomenal.
It'll end up on the back of a trailer as a show and tell piece guaranteed.

Isn't it about time they changed their name?
