Apart from the one at Dunsfold...

And the building houses on it all seems to have gone silent... I assume

The last of the standard scheme jets leaves Cardiff tomorrow for Saint Athan.

Just BOAC and Landor left after that.

There’s currently a campaign to save Landor (https://www.facebook.com/groups/7433947 ... ?ref=share) , launched earlier this week, some people are approaching numerous airports (I understand Kemble and Coventry have both rejected the proposals). I mean, good luck to them, but I don’t hold out much hope.

Thinking back to August when it seemed like they all would be scrapped, 2/3 specials and a Chatham House one isn’t bad at all. I think people need to come to peace with that.

Agree. To keep an aircraft of that size in even a reasonable condition as a static requires a considerable amount of time, money and effort over an indefinite period. The dedication needed to make that happen year in, year out, shouldn’t be underestimated.

Subject to change but its been announced Landor will go to Dunsfold to join VW should be arriving this week, currently due Friday. Details are still to be sorted, however 3 retros and chatham dockyard scheme isn't a bad preservation line up!

I thought Dunsfold was being turned into houses and that's why the airshows ended?

I thought the Dunsfold aircraft was for filming purposes? Hardly preservation!

Yes its main purpose is for filming however from what ive heard there are plans to allow public access to it, agree though it will have to earn its keep however so does Neglus

The bulldozers won't be moving in for a few more years yet so they've a few years grace. Unfortunately after bumper years in 2014 and 2015 the shows suffered a run of bad weather, decreased income, and increased costs which was why it was decided to end Wings & Wheels.

The VC10 sale was a case of the right offer at the right time. Again no need to immediately remove the aircraft but it was coming, so a case of taking the money on offer in year of vastly reduced income for Brooklands.

Filming purposes is more preservation than meeting the JCB/blow-torch!

I'd imagine if G-BDXJ survived all these years there then the income from filming must have covered the cost of it. Of course it could be they want to keep them in better condition or the purchase price is greater than it was for G-BDXJ so a little extra income will do nicely. Or it could cover the costs of opening up to the public - insurance, marshals etc.

Hope it happens, the Landor is the only one I've not managed to catch and let's hope Dunsfold see sense and open up to visitors this time, after all Kemble did for the Negus, as the A281 was chaos last time.

An "aviation park" is shown in the plans for Dunsfold on the runway line which is meant to honour the site's aviation past...however a 747 would be stretching that idea to say the least !

yep!

A long wait but worth it. She did a loop then landed Easterly (ie not where everyone was standing) What's the collective term for 747's?

A friend and I had just parked up in a lay-by on the A281 and saw that Dunsfold had posted on Facebook that she would land on 07, so we drove round to Dunsfold village. There were quite a few people there and more driving/walking/parking down Allford Road. Not great conditions for photography, weather and location wise, but I finally completed the set by getting Landor.
