Hungarian Gripen has withdrawn

Hope this wasn't the big aircraft announcement! 😬

Not entirely unexpected but disappointing all the same.

Nice stuff. It'll probably be the two flypasts and hover that were seen at Yeovilton and RIAT 2019 but still nice to see for the first time at Cosford.

Especially as Ruch doesn't get about as much as Rich

Glad to see both Rich and Ruch are going to be there, makes up for the Gripen in my books.

I hope we have a busy month of aircraft announcements - looking sparse so far!

Yup.. Looking at Midlands air festival, besides the millitary participation is looking a much much fuller show and has some real gems that dont get seen that often these days

I plan to go to the arrivals and practice days on Friday or Saturday. I usually go on a Saturday but was wondering how active the Friday usually is? Might just go both days :) If anyone has experience of going both days at the cosford station, i'd appreciate it :D

Hopefully see some practice displays or arrivals

Hi mate,

In 2019 the Saturday was the better of the days, Swiss F-18, German P-3, Czech L-159's, Baby Blue all practiced/validated. The Czech Gripen was due to aswell but had an issue. The Friday if I remember was very quiet.

Although that was a change from the previous years as usually the Friday is busier. If you can do both days then that gives you the best chance 👍

Edit.... Actually looking back through my 2018 pictures, it looks like Saturday had the majority of the Practise displays then too, Polish Mig-29, Rafale, New Zealand 757, Belgian F-16.

Sounds like mini airshow. Throw in some fillers and hey! A two day airshow!

As for Friday/Saturday - Fridays seem to have the majority of arrivals for static, Saturday seemed to have a majority of practice displays plus some civvi/warbird static aircraft.

It changes year on year, though. 2019 saw the Slovak Let-410 arrive on Saturday, which was pretty neat.

Interesting the F35 flypast is listed under 'Military Partners' and not 'Royal Air Force' on the website.

I'll be at Cosford on the Saturday as I've never been to the museum, back in 2018 the trains didn't really give me time to do both, so coming over to England a day earlier to do the museum and hopefully see a few arrivals/practice.

First Sunday train doesn't get me in until after 10am though :(

Southport have got the south Korean display team. Is there a case for moving cosford a bit nearer to RIAT to enable visiting overseas teams/acts to attend cosford as well.
Why is it still held in June? There aren't as many large shows around these days to get in the way of the only official RAF show.
Thoughts please.

Thoughts are that it’s a bit of a silly suggestion.

If you want to see the Black Eagles, go to RIAT or Southport.

Appreciate Yeovilton and Legends aren’t taking place this year (but both seem to want to return, so assuming they are;) July was cramped and overcrowded enough as it is without Cosford competing for the same.

We could also flip it around - the only flying attendance by a B-1B at a U.K. airshow (to my knowledge) in the last ten years was at RAF Cosford, because they were here on deployment, and had gone by the time RIAT came around. To my knowledge, though I haven’t checked, that might be true of the B-52 as well.

What you’re proposing is to move Cosford into a much more crowded point in the season (where it’ll probably have to compete for display acts with both the bigger U.K. shows, and also international ones as it currently does, all for, what, the off-chance that the South Koreans might visit once every ten years? What other team deploy to Europe for the summer that this change of date would pick up? I can only think of the Jordanian Falcons.

If you want to see the Black Eagles - go to RIAT or Southport or Farnborough or wherever.

Just as if people moaning in the RIAT thread so desperately want to see the French Rafale display, then they should come to RAF Cosford.

i know it sounds like im banging on about it but, i really am disappointed in cosford's lack of communication this year.

With 4 weeks to go, there is 3ish hours maybe 4 at a push of flying and 2 static aircraft to walk around. (Including Rich Goodwins 2nd pitts which is missing off the website)

The folk updating the website are clueless. WHY is the hungarian Gripen still on the list.. it canceled 5 days ago but the F35 and Puma have been added to the list in the last few days.
Dont invite disappointment by making silly mistakes like this.

Where are the warbirds? is the BBMF it? Is there more civvy stuff to come, is it even booked yet or are they leaving it until the last second?

Just feels like they've really dropped the ball this year :(
I really am hoping to eat my words in a few days when everything is annouced and all is good and i seem like a spoilt little spotter.. i really hope so.

A comment by one of the organisers on the event’s Facebook page:

“Announcements have been slower this year for reasons that we won't bore you with. There is a lot more coming and the pace of announcements is going to increase over the coming days and weeks.”
