For those considering going to Edwards, how are you finding the flight and car hire prices? I've been monitoring since before xmas and flights seem to be 50% more than pre-pandemic and car hire about 100% more adding c.£700 to the holiday cost. LAX seems to be the best airport to fly to from the UK from a cost prspective. Prices seem to be going up too.
I can't comment on flight price as I had a US trip cancelled on the weekend the pandemic travel restrictions first hit in 2020 - as a result I had quite a lot of Avios as an apology so I've managed to book Business Class for less than an Economy class ticket pre-pandemic.
Hire car prices though have gone through the roof, I'm out there for a fortnight and a mid-size SUV (Mazda CX-5 equivalent) has cost me just shy of £1,500.
I haven't started booking hotels yet as I don't know the full dates of my itinerary yet.

Totally agree on the car hire cost. Midsize SUV for 16 days from LAX - £905.
Last trip in 2019 for Yuma, El Centro and Davis-Monthan shows (23 days) Standard SUV from LAX - £565.
I have always booked hire cars through Expedia, primarily because their USA deals include full cover, i.e. No excess. This time, I was shocked at some of the prices for my dates (£1,000 plus)
Like others, I feel that the cost will not be an issue if we can actually get inside Edwards. I got a flavour of the place when I did the Flight Test Museum Tour in 2018 but on that tour, photography was forbidden.
As regards flights, I always use Aer Lingus from Dublin. On past trips, this has allowed me to check my bag through from IOM to LAX, clear US Immigration in Dublin and then walk out at LAX without any of the immigration/customs hassle at that end. Oddly, the flight cost this time is lower than it was for my 2019 trip.

It depends if you mean the jedi transition to sidewinder aka rainbow canyon or the sidewinder in general. If the former, nothing. Restrictions are now permanent. If the latter, there is a valley north of Point A where you can climb high enough to see traffic. It's no Rainbow and it's remote but it's an opportunity to see and photograph China Lake, Lemoore, Edwards and Fresno birds with a land locked background.

I found car hire for normal-ish prices. Search via kayak from LAX. The specific day seems to make a difference and I tried several combinations before I found something suitable. I couldn't find any fly-drive packages for a good price. Hope this helps someone.

Ref B-21 Raider - Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. C.Q. Brown said there will be a special public splash for its unveiling, not necessarily at its rollout or following first flight - both due early this year. Could this be the centrepiece of the Edwards airshow?

Not to get to excited but:

SNJ Texan - John Collver confirmed
Boeing Stearman - Vicky Benzing - 'tentative'

It's a start but with 8 months still to go I'm expecting the juicy stuff to be announced far later. I'm still surprised there's no ACC jet scheduled to appear though. They must have something unusual / unique in mind.

Well there are gaps in the schedules for all but the F35 which is 'down the road' with the Snowbirds at Santa Maria. So ... maybe...

I noticed that but why announce every other show and single out Edwards for exclusion? There must be a reason. I'll be travelling two weeks before so will see the F35 / Snowbirds / Angels at Fleet Week. I feel confident that Edwards will be a unique show so not worried.

Good old 'War Dog' :grinning:
That Stearman display is very much worth a watch too - got some nice shots at Lemoore a few years ago.
Now officially qualifies as a 'regular' at Famous Dave's - El Centro

B21 not flying until 2023. Rollout may be this year but I assume that is at Palmdale

Where did your see the announcement? I did a search and it's still coming up with 2022 for the first flight.

Oh, and still no news on the airshow participants.

The optimistic soul in the RIAT thread who is convinced we will be see it at Fairford in July is going to be sadly disappointed. 😂

Try all of us that were hoping it was still on course for a summer first ferry flight to Edwards and a debut on static in October!

It's not unreasonable to assume the test squadrons will take part and in the hybrid event in 2020 the following were flying:
T38, F16, F-22, F-35, F/A 18, B52, C17, KC135, C20 and C12.

I guessed most of those along with B1 and B2 in the flying display; F117 and B21 on static and the B21 having a roll out ceremony on the Saturday. So much for my prediction. I'm still going on both days though although American Airlines are doing their best to mess me about by moving me to a different flight. Just wish the organisers would announce something other than promising it's 'a show you don't want to miss'.

I will be there both days - and the Friday if anything is happening. If not on the Friday I may try to catch a Snowbirds practice at Santa Maria before driving across - assuming they do practice!

I was going to go on Friday too (with it being the SB anniversary) but as they don't seem to be letting the public in, I'll either have another day in the Sidewinder or go to Laguna Seca for Velocity Invitational.

From their FB feed "... but you can get involved RIGHT NOW and be a part of history:" I have no idea what this means but I do like the sound of it.
