Ah whatever goes up it's still a day out (easily beats a good day at work). Weather looks promising tomorrow.
...and it's a fair-haired slightly balding Bobby Charlton to kick off!

To be fair TFC have had aircraft flying at most, if not all of the Flying days. Definitely Corsair, Wildcat, Spitfire V and P-40F. Plus the Comanche Fighters fleet have been active recently with the Spitfire 1s and P-51 Hun Hunter. Some of the TFC fleet are already listed for BoB in September.

It would be nice to see the occasional compliment for their efforts, even if it's for 'artistic impression' to use a phrase that's on TV a lot at the moment
The compliments will come when they a) pick an achievable theme and b) deliver said theme. Why should we compliment them if they've picked a theme that they can't achieve and even then haven't made the most out of available options which fit the theme?

Just arrived at Duxford and am delighted to report that they have sold 3800 of 4000 available tickets for the 19 Squadron Flying Day. Members are parking on site in front of Airspace.

Evening Air Show @ Duxford - Saturday 28th August

Tickets available for Members now and to the general public from the 3rd August.
https://www.iwm.org.uk/airshows/events/ ... g-day-four
No discount for members though!
I was thinking of taking my daughter to this instead of the 19th Aug flying day until I realised that you aren't allowed in until 5pm when most of the museums will be shut. Seems a bit of stretch to be charging £28.50 for a small display and two hangars open.

The flypast from two F-15E Strike Eagles today was certainly a most welcome addition!

If that really is all that is on offer then (for me) it's not worth the nearly 100 mile drive each way....
nothing is confirmed at a show until its u/c hits the tarmac or it is running in for its display.....

The IWM Duxford facebook page on 06-08-2021 is claiming that there will be a two hour flying display -

'Join us on Wednesday 11 August for a day packed full of enjoyment and fun for younger Duxford fans and their families.
From special activities across the museum, living history groups and a 2 hour flying display, Flying Days: Showtime will keep all the family entertained.
Tickets are only available online in advance. Please check availability and book your tickets before you travel. bit.ly/3A8USz8'.

Firstly, I don't "do" Facebook (or Twitter anything similar).

Secondly, unless much more is announced on the IWM website and/or indicated on here before Wednesday I do not see how they could get anywhere near 2 hours unless each of the currently announced aircraft has a 40 minute slot (very unlikely).

Thirdly, if I include lost work hours, the cost of fuel etc., then even though entry for me as a Member of IWM is free, the flying display would cost me in excess of £100. As announced so far, definitely not worth the effort.

I hope much more is announced as I do enjoy these Flying Days.

I completely agree with you. I was not having a go at anyone. Just reporting what has been written.

On the current list of three aircraft advertised as displaying, then many people who do have Facebook, Twitter or whatever ad turn up on the day to see just three aircraft displaying, will find a claimed two hour flying display to be very misleading.

I enjoy flying days as well and I certainly hope more aircraft is added to the list later today.

If they do add more, but do not advertise it, then I can only speculate why they have not publicised it. I may take the risk and go but if it turns out with only three airacrft displaying, I will obviously be very unhappy about it but I would also expect complaints, many of which will be from oridinary members of the public due to a misleading claim.

I also have attended all of the flying days. The final line up never seems to be confirmed prior to the show.

I highly suspect there will be some more warbirds flying, including a Spitfire or two.

The only flying day that truly sparks my interest is the evening one with otto the helicopter, which annoyingly is the only flying day that isn't free to IWM members.

The rest are just all the same aircraft flying. There's only so many times a spitfire flying right to left can be entertaining.

Personally I don't ever get bored with seeing a Spitfire or two, so long as they go left to right as well. BluffPilot is right though, it's also nice to have some variety. I'm sure that a Spitfire and/or a Hurricane will be added along with a Buchon which will make it little different to the other Flying Days. Looks like the weather is improving but work will keep me away from this one.

I wouldn’t be so sure - the 19 Sqn themed show had a single Spitfire.

None of the Flying Days from what I recall, were actually a 2 hour flying display. Even the D-Day show which was the most beefed up IMO was around an hour and 10 mins.

Just phoned someone at Duxford to find out the exact flying list before commiting to it. They said they expected the NHS PR.XI Spitfire to be added to the list, they also said they expected something else aerobatic to be added, perhaps the Extra 300 but they didn't specify exactly what, but did say that wasn't conformed yet.

For me, I think I'll be giving this one a miss.

They did say they were working on the next Flying Day program, which they were hopeful to have the ARCo Lysander and the Fighter Collection's Corsair as participants (that's on the website now for the Young Aviators Flying Day on the 19th) that seems a little more promising to me.

For families visiting the museum for the first time the flying adds a great extra element. For enthusiasts focusing mainly on the display it’s a bit light.
