Oshkosh 2022

Post by shaggy101 »

First time going out for EAA Airventure Oshkosh held at Wittman Regional Airport & this event did not disappoint in anyway. more than 10,000 aircraft in display means that at certain times it is the busiest airport on the planet. & with 1 pilot telling me that they were in a stack 100 miles long with aircraft spaced at 1/2 a mile it's not hard to imagine the scale of this event. I will admit that the vast majority of the 10,000+ aircraft were GA types which for me aren't particularly interesting. The only real gripe I have was the lack of USAF assets especially in the flying display, they were completely outshone by the US Navy & Marine Corps who were nothing short of spectacular.

Here are my efforts from the first day which wasn't a show day as such, more an arrivals day. Most of the mil stuff was later on in the week so that is to come:

Lovely photos. I really like the classic jet formations 👍🏼.

Numbers wise, it must be the largest show in the world I guess? (Even if lots are GA types).
You can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter.

I would assume so, they market themselves as they worlds busiest aviation gathering

Here are my efforts from day 2, still plenty of arrivals today & A couple of surprises as well, the CF-5D springs immediately to mind. More military arrivals today with 2 USAF T-38's being the highlight for me, there was also a third that came in from Beale AFB as well but I was on my way back so missed that one.

What an amazing event it looks like this year. Those T-6's almost look nice with the retro schemes. Still waiting for the gorgeous Mig-29...

I have enjoyed the images to date. The combo F5 / T38 presence was a bonus, for sure.
I agree with your observation re: the USAF participation. Considering it was a significant anniversary, it was a little underwhelming. The presence of quite a few great warbirds more than made up for it, though. I particularly enjoyed the four Cats. I look forward to viewing more of your images.
Cheers,

I too am enjoying your pics. I still have to visit my 3000 pics of the event. I echo George's comments as the USAF participation was sadly lacking for a billed 75th anniversary.Thank goodness for the US Navy participation which was great.

Your pics also illustrate how easy it is to miss arrivals/departures depending where one is on the huge site. I missed both Texan II's which is not helped with the modern military being held in a secure space on the non public side of the field.

Warbirds were brilliant though.
