Central Coast Air Fest 2022

Post by boff180 »

Evening all,

Way back in 2022 I spent an enjoyable day at the Central Coast Air Fest - a private show on the California coast that had more military participation than the entire of the Edwards AFB Show the day before! Just a shame it was facing in to the sun!

Facing into the sun seems to be a common theme at West Coast shows - although your F-35 image proves that it isn't always a bad thing!

Excellent set. The P-38 and Dauntless are real beauties, and I really like the TBM/Corsair shot.

Great shots Andy, as ever, that weekend was my first for shows in the States, and my non-AvGeek partner and I both left Edwards feeling a bit disappointed and had a gruelling drive west as you must have done for CCAF but absolutely loved the vibe at Santa Maria, which was an outstanding show thanks to Planes of Fame and military demo team participation. Backlighting was a minor detail in the end.

With hindsight my opinion of Edwards has improved and I’m really glad I went. Mojave was a culinary wasteland though and the blueberry pancakes and breakfast burrito at The Pantry in Santa Maria were spot on. The local cops were eating there so that must be a good sign!

Nice work Andy. It was a great show, with some magic flying moments. My first proper Super Hornet vapour cone (with a decent camera anyway), and some sublime warbird flying with ample close topside opportunities. Even a Hercules water drop.

The military on static was bonkers for a show of its actual size. A show that I will fondly remember.
Now officially qualifies as a 'regular' at Famous Dave's - El Centro

Yes - this was a really great show. And with a new camera I managed to screw up my first Super Hornet vapour cone!
