Topic of the week #98:A10

Post by rebel14 »

It has been announced this week that 2024 will be the last season for the A10 demonstration. With this in mind please post your A10 images, doesn't have to be taken during a display though. Lets see your best five A10 shots.

Let's start with the only two seater, still preserved but now painted in a very odd colour. This was taken back in 1997.

My only encounter with an A-10 seems to be in 2011@Nellis Aviation Nation airshow.
So, all pics from the same event and of the same a/c:

Fond memories of the A10 at my College in Buxton Where around 10:30am would be the subject of a simulated attack as it was ex RAF Harpur Hill back in the war.

Wonder how i passed my food service exam to this day with that happening.

A10 is one of my favourite aircraft, and was lucky enough to see them on base at Alconbury and on Various exercises, most unfortunately not with a camera, However I did see the KC ANG arrive at Leeming back in 2016 which most of my pictrues are from.

Can someone explain why the front wheel and the mental gun at the front are both off centre? Is it just because they get in each other's way?

Yes, that's the reason, for me.
The A-10 was actually built around the gun itself.

EDIT : that's the reason for which the front wheel is off-centre.
For the gun, it may be the magazine that has to be centered because of the ammo weight. And the gun could not be centered with the magazine.

Thanks all for taking the time to post.

Some great images and angles posted, reminding me of when we used to get them flying low across the fields of South Lincolnshire and on the east coast ranges.

Anyway 'hogging' the top spot for this topic is Mictheslik and his low level top side shot, over to you Michael

IIRC the firing barrel of the GAU-8 is on the centreline (all right centerline for an American aircraft).

I guess you are right. Meaning that the firing barrel is the 9 o'clock one when facing the muzzle.
