Beja Portuguese AF show 1-2 June

Post by st24 »

Currently advertising USAF F-15E "demo" and RomAF F-16. Interesting, unsure if this is just hyping the static? Need to look at this one...

This airshow is looking very good so far! I would dare say ... rivaling RIAT in the flying program. Shame I am at Duxford this weekend, didn't know anything about this show! Will look out for it in the future

Indeed, looks decent!

I was more wondering where a participation list was, as there doesn’t seem to be one publicly(?)

Oh sorry lol, the website doesn't look updated. Just like your post earlier from EU Airshows I've just clocked quite a few from them regarding this show. The more I think about the more I believe that Couteau Delta is a top top rare act to get.

Sorry if I'm being thick, but nowhere on the official social media accounts does it say the American F-15E and Romanian F-16A would be flying at the show. It just says they'll be at the air show. So perhaps they're just on static display and the 'European Airshows' Facebook page has got the wrong end of the stick? Unless has seen confirmation elsewhere?

None stated as to one way or another but you can probably guess which are in the flying display.

Have to agree the text below the OP's Video post is non-committal.
It says :-
"Make way for speed! ⚡

The F-15E, from the American Air Force, and the F-16, from the Romanian Air Force, will be present at the Beja Air Show! 🇺🇸 🇷🇴

On the 1st and 2nd of June, Beja is a mandatory stop!"

Beja also hosts Hot Blade and Real Thaw exercise at the week before and after the show. So that might bring in some extra visitors (and might be the reason Romanian F-16’s and LN Eagles are present).

Does anyone know if it is possible to view / take pictures from the opposite side of the airfield in the afternoon to avoid backlight? Thanks

This is what put me off going. Would be a great chance to tick off pretty much the entire Portuguese inventory but the venue isn't the best. Shame really.

Spot on. You can shoot from the road to the south of the airfield that leads to the civvie terminal, although it's a gamble whether they'll be policing secondary crowd areas during the airshow.

Thanks guys, already thought so. Google maps is quite helpful to see the layout of the event btw it seems the satellite image was taken just as the airshow took place (guess 2023 - Red Arrows on the runway).

From Aviation Safety Network

Two Yakovlev Yak-52 aircraft of the Spanish-Portuguese Yakstars formation team collided during the Beja Air Show, Portugal.
One aircraft crashed, killing the spanish pilot. The other aircraft involved in the collision managed to land, according to local media.

Videos of the accident suggest that one aircraft (Yakstar 4) descended from the six-ship formation and made a steep climb in front of the Vic-formation of the remaining five aircraft. During this maneuver the aircraft struck the propeller of the aircraft in the left wing position Yakstar 4 suffered severe damage to the tail, lost control and crashed. A post-impact fire erupted.

A photo on Twitter shows a pilot jumping out of his Yak. Probably too low for the chute to fully deploy.
A tragic accident. Very tragic
