Give me a 777x display over a RAF tutor display any day of the week.

100% agree.

Keep the show as the largest military show in the world but due to types/numbers from air arms getting smaller and smaller, I think a large commercial jet every now and then is a good addition. Not multiple at one Riat, but even if it was every other year I would not turn my nose up at it.

Exactly this. If we had a military 757* display, we'd all be cock-a-hoop. But a civilian one is the same aircraft, surely?

I enjoy seeing Civilian aircraft at airshows too. Though I do think they are better suited to flypasts with the likes of the Red Arrows. Though the Beluga was fantastic to see on its own. Seeing the 727 in 2022 was fantastic too.

yep exactly, I think it would add value to the flying display, it's more variety and a nice change of pace from 3-4 fighters in a row (not that i'm moaning about that, it's just better to have variety)

Side note, still towards the top of my wish list would be the return of that New Zealand 757 back in the flying program

Just to play devils advocate for a minute, the problem with airliners is that they are airliners, constantly tasked, hence why the ones we remember are cargo aircraft and I think the oasis one was pre launch of the airline. So as much as it is nice to see one thrown around they are tough to get hold of.

The Boeing 777x isn't a current airliner, but a demonstrator aircraft straight from Boeing itself! (if needs some practice before F'boro it'd be more than welcome to do so over the Cotswolds)

Much like the A400 was in 2010.

Airliners and commercial heavies have featured throughout the life of the Tattoo all the way back to the North Weald days. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the multiple appearances from Concorde and nobody would be turning their noses up at that. The Anglo Cargo 707 that took part in the display in 1991 would also be welcomed with open arms these days as would the charter Il18s.

The Beluga XL was a classic example of something different on offer that was bestowed with positivity, sadly the Sukhoi Superjet hardly stirred the loins in the same way.

As long as its an interesting display I'm sure anything would be welcomed, a dull single flyby of a standard tube with two underslung engines still in regular service would be filler. Then again the USAF KC-135 wasn't exactly worth the effort last year.

It’s also noted how everyone recalls the lovely DHL displays in 2012, but the slightly less well received FlyBe Embraer the year prior.

The Flybe Embraer was just a single fly through wasn't it?

Hence why I was hoping to see the RNZAF 757. It’s something different in the flying display and was a shame when it cancelled in 2022. And it’s got the added rarity of being from New Zealand and the fact that 757s are getting increasingly rare nowadays I believe.

RNZAF 757 would be a fantastic addition. I enjoyed it a lot in 2018 at Cosford but it was missing the take off and landing element of the display.

Apparently Poland have a C130 Demo? The only one in Europe according to a post by European Airshows and is displaying this year, that would be something different indeed.

Edit - going by posts in another thread, the Irish Air Corps C295 would be a great addition to static.

I’m not entirely sure what it consists of. At Radom last year it was a single flyover with a flare dump. It is down to display at Sanicole in September, I wonder if it will just do the same at the Saturday twilight show.

According to this is flight, it’s a display consisting of 7 manoeuvres and is gradually being built up. Would love to see it here some point though

If we have to believe the Polish AF their schedule for this year, we will not be receiving the C-130 demo, Sanicole will tho

Yeah, I just assumed it was lost somewhere between Luton and Exeter to be honest...

Not sure it was, was it? I recall clean and dirty passes at least, but it sort of illustrates my point - quite forgettable compared to the DHL 75/67 display

Edit, yeah, ostensibly a display rather than a flypast, if it can be called that:

The best non-military heavy display I've ever seen was the Oil Spill Response 727 at Cosford. A beautiful aircraft, beautifully flown.

I think that modified C130 thing with different engines that almost went upside-down in a wing over at Farnborough a few years ago would be great at RIAT too, if it still displays.

Airliner displays, two really stand out to me.

The first being the United Airliners 767 at Middle Wallop 2000 - a missed approach and display over a grass airstrip! (Video says 2003 but 2000 was the last Wallop show)

The second being Yeovilton 2005 - my only ever Yeovilton show and this South African 747-400.

The ending of the 747 display was just... wow

that schedule is hit and miss, the C-130 will actually display a few times in Poland while its marked down for static.

Apologies for the subject change, thoughts on tomorrows update? I think we’re due some flying displays to be added.

I predict saudis, polish f-16, JHC stuff (chinook etc) and/or Italian RSV stuff.

Yes, hopefully tomorrow sees a flying update. I can imagine the FB masses if it is a 4th week in a row all static lol.

Blackcats, Apache and Chinook I hope.

Surprised no-one has mentioned the BOAC 747 back in 2019 yet!

Back on topic however, I reckon we will finally see Polish confirmations (how long has thst sat as a self confirmation?) and British helicopters.

AFAIK there is no Apache demo again this year.
