What would be the point of a recce given its only attending Midlands on the Friday.
Unless plans have changed and the Friday display isn’t a display - it’s the recce for the weekend.

I’ve seen no reports of a Recce today?

Fair play on them getting straight on the phone when an act cancels, other shows would have just accepted a gap

I've certainly not heard anything today (I'm less than 8 miles away). I was away from home for a couple of hours, but I've seen no comments on local media and there most certainly were when two came down on a Thursday a couple of years ago. I have assumed it's a typo, unless the two are flying through with one carrying on to Exeter. Tomorrow is the only Typhoon display here this year.

There is no Typhoon at the weekend it’s Friday only, so unlikely to be a recce, unless a recce then display. Or some sort of pairs flypast/s. It’s a mystery. We’ll all find out tomorrow.

Well when Midlands said stand by for replacements they were not mucking about, a great effort from all involved to secure the replacement displays at the 11th hour.

Not sure how many changes I've made to the flying list at the top of this thread today! Hopefully up to date.

Great efforts by Trev and the team to try to secure some replacements at such a late stage rather than accept gaps in the schedule, really using all those contacts he's built up over the years!

He's doing both days at Torbay, so he's covering some miles over the weekend.

Draken for the Saturday is the final addition to the flying display this year and what a fine addition it is. The team at Midlands and the various operators who have provided the replacements at such short notice deserve huge credit.

Once again, Trev, James and the team deserve huge credit for reacting the way they have to late cancellations. I realise it wouldn't always be possible to add in items so late, but a real lesson in how to at least try to give the paying customers a full day of displays.

I just hope the wind doesn't affect the flying, certainly quite gusty this morning and I think the balloons are going to struggle perhaps even to tether.

10am announcement Friday 31 May:
☔️❗️We have had to cancel the B-17 flight to North Weald Airfield today due to cross wind at Duxford out of limits. A decision on today’s Midlands Air Festival display will be made by our pilots later on with safety being paramount. ❗️☔️
The B-17 has a relatively low wind limit due to being a tail dragger with a large fin. 80 Years ago this was no problem because most of the wartime airfield had a triangular runway system making a take off into the wind possible most of the time.
Duxford only has a single runway and the wind today is sadly across.
From the B-17 Preservation ~ the Sally B page facebook page.

Looking at the BBC Weather forecast for Duxford Airfield it shows at 19mph for 12, and 20mph for 4pm, both with breeze from the north, so i don't think it will display.

They've done an excellent job getting these last-minute changes sorted out - JP & Bronco not the most frequent of display aircraft at the moment, and I'm sure there are some rather happy Saturday goers after the Draken addition. Add them to the DC-6, B-25 and Gnat and they seem to have an excellent line-up - hope everyone who goes this weekend has a good time and the weather is kind.

Looks like the JP will be popping into Halfpenny Green over the weekend...
