Great update.

New Air Force always great.
That's what makes RIAT RIAT!

Polaris is a good one at the end of the military career of the A310s (still need one CC-150!).
Really had hoped a little bit a/the CC-177 would bring a chopper.

Yes
And an AETE one
Yes yes
Feel like this is considerably overlooked. That’s got to be one of the rarest items at RIAT this year(?)

Absolutely mental catch by DBH!

Definitely overlooked!

I thought it was the same one we saw back in 2018.

Having searched it, it does seem quite the pull. Excellent work!

Also i'm surprised no one has mentioned Astra the mascot. Absolute scenes.

Up there with the static Russian Bears.

Strange one, but does anyone know why the RAF Typhoon is Saturday and Sunday only? Since RIAT became a 3 day event in 2014 it's displayed at every Friday show day, so seems a little unusual it's not this year?

It's cause of their arrival being on the Friday this edition, which might have to do with operational requirements and or something different 🤷‍♂️

If you screenshot it and then over expose the image, it looks like a striped dannebrog!

You can definitely make out the Danish flag.

Looking forward to seeing what they have in store.

Planes TV currently streaming at Duxford have just showed their teaser for RIAT24 and have mentioned that B52s will be on static at RIAT again this year?!

I noticed that too.

Planes TV also mentioned of a ‘Special Nato flypast’ on the Friday.

Some great additions this week, Polish F-16D is a thoughtful addition and AETE Griffon a surprising and quality catch. Hopefully the Polish Herc will be the special tail and sometimes the Poles send a random extra CASA in a quick drop off as well so you never know your luck with a special there too. Corsair not to be overlooked either.

Yep, I'll just echo what others have said, a great update again and the F-16 lineup will be one for the ages by the looks of things.

And yes, I'm no particular helicopter fan, but even I can see that the Canadian Griffon is - to use Tommy's vernacular - a mental catch.

Time for a couple of technical questions I think. I'll be residing in the FRIAT enclosure and I was wondering about lens length. I have picked up a nice used Sony 200-600 on a FF A7iii; is this a useful range for the flying display or overkill? Also, I've seen people talking about ear plugs. I've been to airshows for years and not felt the need, but is the runway / display line closer at RIAT? Are they recommended or even necessary? Thank you!

Afternoon all, just looking through some different Bavarian Tiger schemes from over the years and I’m wondering whether it’s likely that we get one of these specially painted aircraft at RIAT in the flying display. Have they always come for static in a colour scheme? I can’t remember exactly but I do remember a German Eurofighter with a colour scheme being on static in the past.

Reference ear protection,I would suggest you take ear plugs/defenders,as
once your hearing is gone, it's gone, never to come back.

Spent most of my working life around aircraft and always used ear protection.

Also I noticed that the typhoon team didn't take blackjack as the spare to the airshow this weekend down Cornwall. Are we expecting blackjack as a spare for riat or are they using a grey jet as spares for all their shows this year?

The squadron doesn't have multiple specially schemed aircraft, only 1 (which has recently been made public). Whether that aircraft is the one they decide to bring to Fairford is up to them, whether it is serviceable that day for starters. I'd imagine DBH ask for special schemes, & having done one, I'd imagine the squadron would want to show it off at a large public event....but if it's broken on the planned arrival day they'd bring a different standard schemed aircraft 🤷‍♂️

As per my post above....if that jet isn't working they won't use it. As far as I understood it, that particular aircraft didn't have many flight hours left on it, which was one of the reasons it was given the scheme it has had the last couple of years.
