My questions would be, when was it upgraded and was someone from the airshow team advised and if so why was it not picked up then?? But totally gutted for the organisers, especially as so much goes to charity.

Wouldn't you think an exemption could be granted for the weekend. Just a little bit of common sense and can-do attitude?

What a farce, really feel for the organisers and the charities who benefit from the show. Would it be to much to think the MOD might want to offer a gesture of goodwill to make up for this mess, and really give the planned Autumn event plenty of support when it comes to static and flying displays.

As others have said why wasn't it picked up 6 months ago.. Don't people speak to each other at the ministry...

Good to see a new date confirmed, will most likely be my last air show for this year so a nice relaxed way to round things off. As has been said its a shame the fly in will not take place but clearly beyond the control of the organisers, lets just hope the show can return to its usual format for 2025 onwards.

Hi everyone - just an update on the new show date 21st Sept with whats planned. As we have said in our statement recently when announcing about the new date etc its an adapted show but at least its something.

Afternoon Flying Displays: Spitfire XIV (from ultimate warbirds), Lynx Mk7, Jet Provost T5, Hurricane Mk1
A few more displays will be added soon and civ fixed wing will arrive / display & depart (unlike previously).

Small static park includes a Westland Scout with replica SS11 missiles, and RAF Events Team have been requested to include RAF Air Mobility Force asset(s) ie: C17 Globemaster & JAC (formerly JHC) been requested a Chinook or Puma as part of the local engagement exercise.

Ground attractions include music / classic vehicles & ex military / arena demos/ simulators including a Spitfire VR simulator from our friends at 322 Sqn Leeuwarden, trade stalls and more.

“With less than three weeks to go now - time certainly flies by!

As we have said all along, the restrictions on all civilian aircraft to land still exist (out of our control) however we have had to adapt for this years event and we have a small static display of 'aviation' which is a Westland Scout helicopter, a clutch of Gliders and a Hawker Hurricane (replica) - all are being transported in & re-assembled.

However, the military are exempt and use Abingdon as a tactical landing zone - one of the types that use the airfield is the Boeing C17A Globemaster.

Therefore we are delighted to welcome back a Boeing C17A which comes from 99 sqn at nearby RAF Brize Norton and will arrive mid morning, to be open to the public for the day, and will depart at the end of the day.
The jet will be on operational standby and so if it is required then it can quickly depart from us.
The crew are really excited to be with us / support us and we are equally as excited to see them with us too.

Afternoon Flying Displays (not landing):

A small static aircraft area contains: Scout helicopter, Schleicher Ka 6 glider, Elliott EoN Olympia glider, Schempp Hirth Ventus glider, Hawker Hurricane (replica).
All these are being transported in for re-assembly.
The restrictions for civilian owned aircraft & helicopters not allowed to fly in (unlike in previous years when it was allowed ) still exists (totally out of our control - the MAA imposed the restrictions earlier this year).

Military aircraft that use Abingdon can land - a No.99 Squadron RAF Boeing C17 Globemaster transport aircraft from RAF Brize Norton will be landing / open to the public.

Arena Demonstration: Husky Dogs on/off during the day.
New: A parade of classic vehicles late morning up part of the runway and past the crowdline.
Live Music: Lissie Allsop (1940s) & Radio Days Big Band (1940s / 1950s), Caroline on Saxophone, Travelin Light with Double Take (Folk),
Classic vehicles area and ex Military vehicles.

Another change to our afternoon of air displays this coming Saturday - unfortunetly the Yak3 is unserviceable so, we are delighted to welcome a beautiful early 1950s classic jet in the form of this DeHavilland Vampire.
It is owned by Mark Hooton and we thank him so much for his support to us and we are sure you all will love his display.
He will slip into the slot of the YAK3 time wise.
So the afternoon Air Display program now looks like this;
Spitfire,
Gazelle Squadron x4 helicopter display
Hurricane
Pitts Special aerobatics
Yak52 aerobatics
Swordfish
Scout helicopter
Harvard
Vampire T11
All displays as mentioned before will not be landing this year, will display and return home.

I'm still so undecided on what to do, up until the announcement of the Vampire i wasn't really fussed. But it concerns me that the weather might be good at Abbo but crap where the aircraft are coming from. To do, what to do...

I've been to every show since 2008 (inclusive) and like to support the event but I'm only interested in the aircraft. I'm also not really fussed about seeing certain aircraft/display teams multiple times each year. At last years event I spent the entire display period queuing for and inside the C17 and think my time was much better spent doing that. Irrespective of the weather, it is therefore with some regret that I'm seriously thinking of staying at home tomorrow too.
Incidentally my profile pic was taken at an AA&CS on a wet day when no fixed wing aircraft were allowed to land or take off.
