Re: Duxford Diary 2024
An excellent set, wonderful light for the finale.
That closing eight-ship from ARC wasn't an airshow rehearsal, I guess it was just for fun !
Let's call it formation currency for the pilots concerned.
I'd like to add thanks to IWM admissions staff who expedited early entry for members and were (relatively) patient at closing time !

Some fantastic shots. Thanks for posting.
I wasn't aware that the B17A model looked so different from the later ones ;-P...
Couldn't resist. Sorry.

Beautiful light!
Can anybody comment on how likely the Stbd lower u/c door segment was damaged upon landing as the undercarriage suspension compresses?
From previous viewings & the Port leg shown here, it should be at a right-angle to the vertical skin to permit spring compression without metal contacting the ground!

Which aircraft are you referring to?Stagger2 wrote: ↑Mon 16 Sep 2024, 2:45 pmBeautiful light!

Re: Duxford Diary 2024
I assume the Staggerwing is the subject. The u/c door bends in half to 90 degrees. I know nowt about the damage or any incident.
Re: Duxford Diary 2024
This new crew member was checking out the Staggerwing and looking for loose nuts on Friday

As I'm sure many of you have already heard, IWM's Airspace Hangar is undergoing a major refurbishment next year. This includes so far the removal of Short Sunderland ML796, Avro York G-ANTK, De Havilland Comet 4 G-APDB and De Havilland Dove G-ALFU all for external display. To add to this they are disposing of their De Havilland Tiger Moth N6635 and SEPCAT Jaguar (the latter going to Flixton). This is to make way for a new Cold War Exhibition in Airspace.

Does anybody know if any aircraft are currently stored on the North Side and if so which aircraft?

That's a Cold War classic surely.

As winter maintenance edges nearer, the Catalina should be flying today...

Re: Duxford Diary 2024
I'm guessing the IWMs answer, though I have to say I agree with you, would be as the first production GR.1, XX180 was a trials aircraft.austinp wrote: ↑Fri 04 Oct 2024, 4:17 pmThe Jag is gong????RWTYT wrote: ↑Wed 18 Sep 2024, 4:17 pmAs I'm sure many of you have already heard, IWM's Airspace Hangar is undergoing a major refurbishment next year. Has an interesting history though, as it became the Jaguar International demonstrator airframe and was used for engine trails before eventually retiring 2002. (It does lack engines, guns and pylons though)
A shame to see it leave Duxford.

Whilst the area outside Airspace and the Conservation Area within it were occupied by an assortment of Classic Cars and other vehicles ahead of tomorrow's H and H auction (https://www.handh.co.uk/auction/search/?au=541), the Blenheim was flying passengers today...

Duxford Thursday 10th October:
Jersey Jerk returned to Sywell this afternoon after appearances at Friday's night-shoot and Saturday's Flying Day:
After yesterday's outing, the Tempest remained indoors. Today marked the first anniversary of the maiden flight and arrival at Duxford:
In Airspace, Concorde 101's nose was lowered to pay respect to the late John Dunlevy, a Concorde veteran who was instrumental in getting G-AXDN live.
