Re: E7A Wedgetail
Who on earth decided to give them serials in the WT range?. Unforgiveable...

Re: E7A Wedgetail
Who cares?
It's not as if the 'WT' prefix has only been used on one specific aircraft type in the past.
Did the Canberra lot complain about Hunters also being 'WT', or vice-versa....did both of them have a bitch about the fact that 'WT' was also allocated to Slingsby gliders?
Hell, you could even ask if the old Skyraider lot complained about the Canberras & Hunters using the 'WT' prefix!
And if you go back that far, remember that the SPADs were AEWs, so there's the link for the Wedgetails usage.
Anyone want to have a bitch about training aircraft using callsigns which used to be the preserve of front-line aircraft?
Grumble, harumph, rustles Times Newspaper.....

You need to wear Donald's hat to stop the subject matter going over the top of your head.

That's neat, hadn't thought of that

Oh I love UKAR sometimes
The top of the fuselage reminds me of those little bits of plastic you have to file off Airfix kits. Someone needs to get rid of them, it looks dead messy...

Re: E7A Wedgetail
The serial number system is in theory supposed to run in consecutive order, though some blocks have been left unassigned (and previously they started from 100, so xx001-xx099 would not be allocated). In recent years a lot of out of sequence allocations have been used, WT001/2/3 being the most recent example. The rest of the aircraft carrying WT series serial numbers are, as pointed out in the thread above, from around the 1950s.
Re: E7A Wedgetail
After a restless night worrying about this serial allocation I have decided to book a R&R stay in Hotel Dilligaf with Whiskey Tango on tap!
Really? Does it matter? Get a grip for goodness sake.

This^^
"OMG they've used an out of sequence tail index - the sky is falling on our heads!"
Aviation nerds being so nerdy that even people on the same forum are mocking them (assuming the original post WAS outrage and not just a feeble, badly executed attempt at sarcasm)
Re: E7A Wedgetail
Considering how bent out of shape people got about some construction works at Fairford "running" the background of their photos, I'd suggest this is just par for the course.
Re: E7A Wedgetail
Damn predictive text is the 'thing' to get upset about IMO !
"ruining" is what I actually read even though it doesn't show that, it's clear cg_341!
Luckily I have 'predictive reading'
Just gotta work on the spelling OCD & I'll be 'fone'!

Oh dear. UKAR in sense of humour failure by the usual suspects and showing off their amazing ability to research stuff on the internet in an effort to look knowledgable...
Frankly I don't know why they've used a 70 year old serial block - it's irritating but not the end of the world as some have assumed. Some of us like things in neat sequential order while others embrace the chaos that exists in out-of sequence serial numbers. Apologies if this comes across as feeble and badly executed but as others have said. I'm not sure I care much what others think of my opinion.

Down under we call it the flying surfboard. Our Wedgies have proven themselves time and time again. Good to see the UK finally get on board.
