I’d check Fighter Control to see if Johns Field is open as he often shuts it this time of year.

Seems it's open for the first two weeks of November. Thanks for the gen.

Well I went and saw absolutely nothing. Not a thing. I left at 14.40 as it was getting dark.
There was a call to Lakenheath Approach while I was returning on the A14 which surprised me as I thought I'd turned the scanner off, but otherwise not a sausage.
Not surprised that the USAF want to close Mildenhall it's grossly underused.

It's not though, is it? You had a bad day out and that's the luck of the draw, but one bad day doesn't make that true at all. It's an incredible air base and we're very fortunate to have it.

On top of the usual traffic of tankers and transports, the last few months have seen visits from a US Navy EP-3E, Super Hornets and Growlers, RC-135U, F-16s for Cobra Warrior, Qatari F-15s, AC-130s, ANG F-16s, Belgian and French A400s, NATO E-3s, US spec ops CH-47s just off the top of my head.

Yesterday, Dornier C-146A Wolfhound 10-3077 arrived at Mildenhall from Lajes - it was flying today out to Sculthorpe and in the Mildenhall circuit.

Reportedly a new toy for the 352 SOW as a longer-term resident. A small German runabout to complement the American muscle. Something different to watch out for - until the novelty wares off.
