Looking to update my desktop PC as my current one won't run Win 11 and therefore won't be supported after October. Don't really play games so photo editing should be the most strenuous thing it'll have to do - I'll be getting the latest version of Photoshop/Lightroom for that.
Any pointers on what sort of specs I should be aiming for the be able to do that comfortably, and have some headroom for future software updates?

Re: New PC
I recientley brought a new PC. I did have a i7 with no TPM, so no windows 11, and it was getting slow. I do run games and this is prefect, i9-1400k, 24 core, 32gb ram and two 1tb SSD's, one just for photos. For what you need is massivley over PC'd, have a look at some of the I7's that are Win 11 compatable that have 32gb+ of memory. FYI this PC cost £800 new from ebay but I used my previous graphics card in it.
Now living in Coningsby, but cant change my user name.
Re: New PC
Processor wise, I'd go for a 14th Gen Intel i7 as the minimum coupled with a decent external graphics card however as you aren't gaming you don't need the best of the best.
The key thing however for Adobe is RAM - the more RAM the better, especially for the new AI denoise feature which is superb but takes masses of memory.
I would also recommend at least two SSD drives.
I've just specced the following at PC Specialist for £1,743 including VAT and it should be fine for photoshop for quite a few years.....
PCS Prism II Case
Intel i7-14700
ASUS Prime B760M-A motherboard with Wifi
64Gb Corsair Vengeance DDR5 (4x 16Gb)
16Gb Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti Graphics Card
1TB Corsair Elite MP6000 M.2 SSD
2TB Samsung 870 EVO 2.5" SATA SSD
Corsair 750W CX PSU
Corsair H60x Elite Liquid CPU Cooler

Your choice is not cutting it in the RAM specs.
If £800 is your budget, I'd say it's not enough to get what your looking for.

Re: New PC
That's because it's an off the shelf solution. Now I've had a bit more time to look, my basket on Amazon now has the following:
- MSI Pro B650-S WiFi Motherboard
- AMD Ryzen 5 7600 (or 7 7700, not sure which to go for)
- Radeon RX 590 (not sure if I even need one? Ryzen 7700 has Radeon graphics integrated and I don't play games on it)
- 3TB of SSDs (1TB for the Operating System and 2TB for storage)
- 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5 RAM

Re: New PC
Hi Dan,
Don't rely on the GPU built into the Processor (Intel have this too). They work by using your systems RAM as the GPU memory, reducing the RAM available for your software.
The advantage of a Graphics Card is that it has its own RAM and also (when enabled), Lightroom and Photoshop take advantage of the graphics cards own processor to speed up rendering/calculations in addition to using your CPU.

Re: New PC
Just to add the recommended amount of ram needed on a GFX card is 16gig.
My I7 has a RTX 4060 with 16gig ram it does denoise on OM systems Raw 20meg images in 7 seconds
