This year's AFW will be on the 14th and 15th of September.
I was looking to attend for my first time on both the Saturday and Sunday. Could someone with some experience or knowledge of the show give me some tips on organising the trip? I would be coming from abroad and wouldn't be renting a car so the idea is to go with public transport.
I've seen there is a bus from the Doukissis Plakentias metro station, which seems to be in the middle of nowhere or there is a train station close by with a 30 minute walk (not sure on how safe this walk is or how often there are trains). Those seem to be the only two options for public transport?
My main question is what have people done before in terms of transport and where did you stay (Which area of Athens or any other town?)
In addition, any opinions of which tickets would be the best choice? Planning on taking photographs so I was considering the base ticket or maybe the grandstand but I don't know how crowded everything is.
Many thanks in advance for anyone who can help me.

Worth while booking grandstand tickets.at 6 foot 4 the seating is a wee bit too uncomfortable for meself which is why I stood at the fence line inside the enclosure.I used a hire car so couldn’t comment on public transport.a thoroughly enjoyable show I may add

I've been to AFW 3 times and always used the bus. The buses depart from right next to the metro station, which is on the blue line. Getting there is very easy if you stay near a metro station. I wouldn't necessarily recommend intercity trains, as those tend to be less reliable. Staying near Syntagma would allow you to do some sightseeing and also get to the bus easily.3enrique wrote: ↑Thu 09 May 2024, 6:54 pmThis year's AFW will be on the 14th and 15th of September.

Sorry, a bit out of the loop. Have the T-2s been retired yet? Considering this show and the potential to catch one could be a decider.
Re: 2024 Athens Flying Week
Yes unfortunately they were retired following the very sad crash at Kalamata in December 23.

Re: 2024 Athens Flying Week
hi guys!
I have a question for the party regulars. I'm planning two days at the airport and am hesitating between Friday and Sunday, is it worth prioritising Friday over Sunday? I'm sure there will be less people at the airport, but it doesn't make much difference to me due to the fact that I'm buying a spotter ticket anyway. Can I expect there to be fewer ‘attractions’ in the air on Friday than on Sunday?
Regards

My reply is intended to help those who are planning to attend future events and would like to use public transport. The reason for the Doukissis Plakentias metro station pick-up by shuttle bus is that it avoids the logjam that is central athens. Further, the metro station is located at a bus terminus/station and in close proximity (spitting distance) of Highway 94 on which the bus will travel to Tanagra. Last year, my wife and I took a half-day tour to Cape Sounio from Athens and it picked up from the Halandri metro station, one stop prior to Doukissis Plakentias metro station. It's standard m.o. for a lot of tour companies.3enrique wrote: ↑Thu 09 May 2024, 6:54 pm... I would be coming from abroad and wouldn't be renting a car so the idea is to go with public transport.

It's not in the middle of nowhere, just a handful of stops from Syntagma metro station, and quite safe. HTH someone.
