No Huey, no Cobra, no Tempest. Don't think I'll bother now.

No Cobra? I can see it on the website still (but their latest update to the website also made the layout a little less friendly to see it all in one go - Cobra on the slideshow with Apache, Chinook and Wildcat - or have I missed something?

Ooops, my apologies,I stand corrected. What a strange layout as you say. Still don't think its enough to justify a visit tho.Professor_M wrote: ↑Mon 12 May 2025, 8:49 amNo Cobra? Does anyone know what happened to the huey? I've only done this show once last year and the list was a bit all over the place. The Rafale was on, then one day only etc just do then do both days.

I'm assuming the maintenance might be more extensive or delayed that expected.
Source: https://www.huey.co.uk/UPDATE FOR 2025
Huey509 is due for her 10-year annual maintenance schedule in May 2025, and we are holding off selling any vouchers/flights due to this. We are unable to give a time frame for this due to the complexity of the maintenance to be completed.
As all our parts for Huey509 need to come from approved suppliers, mainly in the USA, this can take some time and could cause a delay for our engineers.

Re: Duxford Summer Airshow - 21st & 22nd June
The Huey that was pictured on the IWM website was the other UH-1H - MX jets/Mark Fitzergerald's G-HUEY that lives with the Gnats (or at least did when they were at North Weald). The most recent photos I can find of it are from last month in a hangar at White Waltham - I don't know if it was there for filming work or if that's where it now lives?DrSoda wrote: ↑Tue 13 May 2025, 1:13 pmI'm assuming the maintenance might be more extensive or delayed that expected.

Re: Duxford Summer Airshow - 21st & 22nd June
Afternoon all, I was just after a bit useful advice as not been to a Duxford Airshow before.
I have been to the museum a number of times and attended other shows like RIAT, but not actually made it to Duxford before.
Any advice on car parking, is it on base? Is the park and ride a better option? I’d be coming from the South on the M-11 so not sure how I would be routed in?
What time should I aim to get on base/to the car parks?
Looking to bring the girlfriend and 3 kinds, is it a long walk with loads of stuff from the car parks to the crowd line?
How early is it advisable to get there to try and get a good spot, preferably at the front? Any areas better than others?
Any other quirks to be aware of that are unique to Duxford.
I’m looking forward to a fun day out, it’s a nice varied line up, I think my family will enjoy the variety. Thanks in advance for any tips or recommendations.
Cheers
Ben

I usually aim to arrive as the car parks open and have never had any issues with traffic doing that. If you're planning to turn up later, be prepared to queue. I’ve never used the park and ride, so can’t comment on that part. Not sure how old your kids are, but I regularly go with my 7-year-old. Personally, I’d much rather have an early start (he’s up at the crack of dawn anyway) and get there for opening, rather than risk getting stuck in a traffic jam with a bored kid and no toilets!BU7 wrote: ↑Tue 13 May 2025, 1:26 pmAfternoon all, I was just after a bit useful advice as not been to a Duxford Airshow before.

Just come off the M11 at Junction 10 and follow the signs for event parking. If you want to be able to turn left back towards the M11 easily at the end of the day, go for the parking on the right (north side of the site). None of the parking is particularly close though—expect a bit of a walk.
If you’re hoping to get a spot right up against the fence, you’ll need to be in early. That said, many of us actually prefer the far ends of the display line at Duxford. If you take a look at the airfield on Google Maps, you’ll notice that the taxiway curves in towards the crowd at both ends, so take-offs and landings are often closer there than at the centre. One of the unique things about Duxford compared to places like RIAT or Cosford is that the display aircraft often curve around the sides of the crowdline—rolling in or out of a pass near AirSpace or the Land Warfare Hall—so you’ll be much closer to them here than in the centre.
Again, depending on your kids ages, mine really enjoys the new playground, going on board the airliner collection, and watching the Concorde nose droop demo. The cafe does a decent kids meal deal too—much better value than the vendor food.
2025 shows: Cosford, RIAT, Sanicole with a couple of Duxford, Shuttleworth and seaside shows thrown into the mix.
Re: Duxford Summer Airshow - 21st & 22nd June
Many thanks for the reply, sounds like a good plan to get there as the car parks open to avoid the worst of the queues, luckily it’s only a 30min drive for me. I think my 7 & 11 year olds would much prefer to be there early to maximise time looking around (the 13 year old might moan).
Is that parking to the North of the A-505 and then walk over the bridge? I have parked there before for a running event the Duxford Dash. So if this is where you mean I know that’s not that far to walk over.
I like the sound of sitting either end to get a different perspective, a slightly elevated view towards the land warfare hall possibly or a more kid friendly end with the playground and cafe, I’ll have a think about that and discuss with my girlfriend. I really appreciate the info as that’s certainly made the plan for the day much simpler.
Thanks
Ben

yes all parking is now north side of the site unless you are disabled or a VIP.BU7 wrote: ↑Tue 13 May 2025, 9:03 pmMany thanks for the reply, sounds like a good plan to get there as the car parks open to avoid the worst of the queues, luckily it’s only a 30min drive for me. it's either the bit with admin/accommodation blocks, or past that there is a bigger car park in a field. that is my preference as its less stressful to get out of in my experience
Re: Duxford Summer Airshow - 21st & 22nd June
Looks like the Bearcat has now dropped off as well ... the only thing more annoying than a great aircraft dropping off the list late on is weather meaning it can't fly when it is there.
I hate cancellations !!!!!!!!!
Still a strong lineup, really looking forward to seeing the AAC demo at Duxford.

Thanks that’s good to know, and I know where these car parking areas both are so that helps with planning the day. Good tip about the field too.
Thank you

Re: Duxford Summer Airshow - 21st & 22nd June
When I attend Duxford I arrive around 11:00, I find the traffic to be fine. I believe 15-20 minutes of slow moving traffic into the car park. Once at the car park, walking to the gate took around 5 minutes, on one of the car parks you do have to wait to cross the road. I found getting a spot close to the fence quite easy, I came quite late and I was second row, so compared to RIAT traffic and getting a good seat is easier. This is my own personal experience so it may be difference for others. Hope it helpsBU7 wrote: ↑Tue 13 May 2025, 1:26 pmAfternoon all, I was just after a bit useful advice as not been to a Duxford Airshow before.

On other news, a classic Duxford news of removing Otto the Helicopter for some reason

Thanks Airbus,
I appreciate a different perspective, and that may well be the one the kids would prefer with a lay in. I’ll certainly weigh it up.
Many Thanks
