Our 25th Cockpit-Fest was indeed the last that we will be hosting at the museum.

It was a conscious decision not to advise this in advance, and we like to think that we did go out with a bang:
- Highest number of visiting cockpits ever displayed
- Record visiting display numbers
- Combined visitor figures for the weekend in the top five that we have ever recorded

Plus, we did not overstretch our finite resources and we did not breach any Event Safety Planning guidelines whilst hosting the event. These guidelines are one of several reasons why the decision has been taken to call time on the event.

At the moment the plan is to continue with single day events like Aeroboots, and perhaps specific aircraft related events / gatherings – however the ever increasing wave of regulations around Organised Events, will be monitored and could impact on future events.

After the announcement at yesterday’s events I did share my personal thoughts with two other UK aviation museums, who were not fully aware of the fast changing licensing requirements and obligations for events. Challenging and potentially changing times ahead.

We always try to be as open as we can, which is not sometimes not easy.

Event organisation is becoming quite complicated, with lots of issues to consider. Last week there was lots of national media coverage over the cost of event security at village fetes etc.
