20 Years of F-15s in the UK

Post by LN Strike Eagle »

If you weren't already aware, RAF Lakenheath yesterday marked the 20th Anniversary since the first F-15E touched down on English soil. The base honoured the milestone with a celebratory event...

"Liberty Wings" - Michael Hall braved the elements to report from RAF Lakenheath.

Image Image Image Image Image

This is where you come in. We've compiled a list of every F-15 (we think) that has ever been based with the 48th Fighter Wing and we'd like you guys to share your photos and see how many we can tick off. Where applicable, each aircraft has been annotated with significant information such as special markings, victories and in some cases, losses. If there are any mistakes, or more up to date information on markings, please feel free to drop me a PM to let me know and I can add them to the list. Bonus points if you have any of the ground trainers.

Just a few ground rules for this thread:

You're welcome to supply multiple photos in your post, provided they are all of the SAME aircraft. One serial number per post, and no double posting please (by which we mean, do not immediately post after yourself to add another - let someone else have a chance before you post again). We're sure the locals could fill up this thread in very short order, so to give everyone a chance, please don't follow up immediately and reel off a whole load of Eagles.

You're may also duplicate a serial number that has already been posted, but only if you have a shot to share of the same jet in a different scheme.

Over to you...

Good idea this. I'll take 493rd FS F-15C, 86-0156. This is the jet that brought down two Mig-29's simultaneously with AIM-120's in 1999 during Operation Allied Force;

Great shot of those markings, Gary.

I'll chip in with 01-2004 in the 48 FW markings.

Great idea for a thread by the way. Being a local I probably should have gone for a rarer airframe but let's get the D's over and done with, 86-0182.

Another noteworthy 493rd FS jet from me. 84-0027 is the current unit flagship and carries two 1991 Iraqi victories (MiG-23 and Mirage F-1). This aircraft was a attrition replacement to the 493rd in 2001.

Taken with my old kit, I should try and go back sometime, I would imagine Nigel Blake has a fare few photos of every F-15 that has been stationed at Lakenheath.

List is up to date again. :smile:

Another from me - 97-0220, seen recently and also back in December 2002 on a very rainy visit to the 492 FS when she was wearing the 3 Squadron "zap". Taken on a digital compact camera in bad weather, so excuse the quality of those two.
