Twin Engine GB ESCI 1/48th Scale Jaguar GR.1 FINISHED

Post by Tug 747 »

Well this is my entry for this group build. On inspection it doesn't appear to be that bad a kit it does have some raised panel lines but as there are not to many pieces so I don't think it will take me long to knock together. It will be finished in Desert pink and represent one of the Jaguar force in operation Granby in 1990 - 91.

So on with the box art and a shot of the sprue.

Well the fuselage halves interior have been sprayed and joined together and the wings have also been glued.

I then offered the wings to the fuselage for a dry fit and they don't seem to bad but it will need a small amount of work to rectify the gaps

Until the next time.

Well progress has been a bit on the slow side but i have found the time to post an update.

Well after a little bit of filling and some sanding i added the canopy and proceeded to spray with undercoat

I then added some pre shading

Then came the nightmare i sprayed it with Hannants Xtracrylix desert pink and i have always had trouble spraying these paints for some reason or another. To thick , To thin , Spidering , Splattering and finally a clogged up air brush but after some cursing and swearing i managed to get it done but in the process i seem to have lost my pre shading.

The picture appears to show the colour a bit brighter than it actually is.

Until the next time thanks for looking.

Although I like the Xtracrylix range, I have the same problems as you mate when it comes to thinning them.

But, at least you are progressing your build mate, which is more than I can say.

Well done.

Looks good mate! I do like a Jag  How would you rate this compared to the Airfix version? First impressions seem to be this has needed a bit of work?

I built this kit about 8 maybe 9 years ago and I'll say.... Your doing a better job of it then I ever did. Well done!

This is the first Jaguar that i have built Craig so i can't comment on the Airfix version but a friend of mine has built the Airfix kit and he has made a smashing job of it with open panels as if it is in maintenance.

He also has the Kitty Hawk kit in his stash so it will be interesting to see how the 3 compare

Well i enjoyed this build apart from the raised panel lines and i had a small problem with the nose art decal which is nothing to do with me.
The nose art decal comes in 2 halves, A coloured bottom halve and a black top halve so i applied the bottom half and let it dry and then when i went to add the top half i noticed that the arms didn't match up so that is why Johnny Fartpants has 3 arms.

Nice job mate, looks like that wasn't the easiest of builds! I don't think I'll be trading in my Airfix one just yet! :hide:
