Special Schemes GB - Revell 1/72 F-16A COMETE

Post by FTS »

I've been wanting to build this kit for a while as I quite like the scheme and the box it's in takes up a large amount of space! It was bought on Ebay a few years ago and came in a damaged box, but did contain an extra sprue with some more detailed parts, in particular the seat. The moulds are from 1988 unlike the 2000 moulds in the majority of Revell boxings. This kit does contain a separate jet engine, trolley and tractor with ground crew.

I'm thinking of doing an Austrian Draken as well. Will see how quickly I get this one done.

This kit is actually older than I thought with the molds originally dating from the 70s and were in the kit of the prototype YF-16. The extra sprue does make a lot of difference, particuarly the seat which is rather nice. I found the wings were warped but I managed to heat them and straighten them to a relatively exceptable standard for what will be a table filler. The wingtip rails need a bit more work but wont be so obvious once I put some missiles on them. I've also given it a coat with Humbrol Primer.

Up till now... I have never seen this scheme. I was not sure about it when I first saw you starting this one. But it has grown on me now, I like it and look forward to seeing it completed.

This is as much as i'll be able to get done on it before it goes on the table at Gransden tomorrow. I'll add the stores at a later date.

Looks pretty good.. Did you tint the canopy? It does seem darker in the second picture.
