Relocation of Marshall Aerospace from Cambridge Airport
Following a review of progress on the relocation of Marshall
Aerospace from Cambridge Airport, Government and Marshall have
concluded that a wider range of options need to be considered in
addition to RAF Mildenhall.
RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk was always a complex option and after
detailed examination, a range of legal, financial and commercial
issues have been identified. Defence Estates, Marshall and GO-East
have agreed that the range of options under consideration must be
widened.
David Olney Chief Operating Officer, Defence Estates
said, "Relocation adjacent to RAF Mildenhall with use of its runway
facilities was always a complex option with unique issues, and all
parties involved, including the USAF, have worked closely to try to
achieve its delivery".
Martin Broadhurst, Chief Executive, Marshall Aerospace, said, "In its
discussion over recent years concerning the proposal to redevelop
Cambridge Airport for housing, Marshall has consistently stressed
that the well-being of its businesses remains its first priority.
The relocation of some of its businesses, including Marshall
Aerospace, is dependent on suitable relocation sites becoming
available".
Tim Freathy, GO-East said, "Government will continue to assist in
facilitating a move by Marshall from Cambridge Airport, working
closely with the Company and stakeholders on this challenging issue".

Re: Marshall Aerospace Relocation
Alconbury, the other option, would need to have an awful lot of money spent on the infrastructure and runway just to bring it up to scratch and in the big scheme of things, if the council gets its way, it's to have a new town built on it within the next 10 years or so.
Now Wyton is still an active airfield

Cettesmore - if they decide to scrap the Harriers - or Wittering for that matter.

Re: Marshall Aerospace Relocation
Don't know what all the fuss is about, nothing is going to happen in the near future, another 6 years at least. So plenty of time to sift through all the proposals. Considering I work there I'm fairly confident nothing will happen yet.

mowgli wrote: Some serious hangarage would need to be built of course, as you can't even get a Herc properly inside the ones at Wyton.
If Marshalls do set up at Wyton they will be taking over the old 'Bloodhound Missile' site to the north of the runway with brand new facilities.
Big 'IF' of course.

https://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/c ... e-19058315Marshalls says it has signed a 150-year lease on land at Cranfield University’s proposed Air Park development in Bedfordshire. While there is still a possibility that the company won't move to the site the likelihood is now that it will be moving out of Cambridgeshire.
However, there are still a wide number of factors that we need to take into account before making any definitive decision about the best location or locations for the MADG business when we ultimately relocate by 2030.
