I last attended in the 90's and wouldn't return - crowd far to cramped, uninspired displays, and now way to expensive never mind the traffic problems.

I've not enough interest in the flying display and therefore no interest in going whatsoever. Had there been more in the way of genuine star acts I might have considered it as I am actually going to see my parents that weekend who live fairly close.

But no, not this time.

And for the poor saps going over the weekend when the majority of the displays are aerobatic?

been to airshows for half the cost with much better lineups. Seen more aircraft ive not seen before at shuttleworth this year so nothing to make me get up at 4am to come all the way. And the RIAT lineup just sums up why i chose that over farnborough

Ok I've just been through the website &can confirm that the weekend flying display is quite poor from an enthusiasts point of view, however through jo blogs eyes who's out with the kids it probably doesn't matter &will be fine. I don't think looking at the weekend show that fia are to bothered about us on here serious enthusiasts & have just plumped for a biggin Hill style airfair setup unfortunately for us. In my opinion the way ahead for the show is to offer a limited number of discounted trade day tickets for the serious enthusiast & use the weekend as a fundraising event for local charities in order to justify the prices they charge people. I think its a terrible shame that this particular event has evolved this way & prey for a change of management bring back at least some of the good times.

The thing is its a trade show not a spotterfest on Mon-Thu, the great unwashed are allowed in on Fri, Sat and Sun.

Despite the show being a pale shadow of its former self, assuming work commitments fit, I'll pop in for a trade day I think.

Farnborough airshow.......... Dead but doesn't know it yet.
One big yawn fest :sleepy: since the thrust vectoring Russians at the turn of this century.

A damn shame for what was one 'the' worlds premier airshow. Wouldn't go again even with a free ticket and transport provided plus £500 spending money.

I last visited FIA in 1992 and whilst the experience wasn't great it wasn't appalling either and I've been meaning to go back ever since.

This is the first year that I've been able to get a return visit in and I'll be going with an open mind.

If it's not good then I won't be attending again in the future.

1992 was a vintage year, probably one of the all time classics - you'll find it a very very different type of airshow these days.

I always have a policy of early starts for airshows but grew tired of getting parked out in the wilderness of the tank testing grounds then after a huge trek through the woods and common ,the 'reward' of a distant and high flying display.
I'd be happy to see FIA disappear if only because of the way it shunts RIAT onto the Flying Legends weekend.
Believe it or not, there are enthusiasts who like both piston aircraft and jets

Thanks for the heads-up.

I remember the air activity from that last show being excellent (and I have a few grainy photos to show for it), but the overall experience being a little disappointing.

Haven't been since 2008. The great days of the Farnborough Air Show are long gone. Just glad that I was around to see some of them, used to be a highlight of my year.

Just read UKTopgun's comment about litter. Some years ago (can't remember the exact year) we visited on one of the public days, and the field had not been cleared of litter from the day before. I'd never seen litter like it, all sorts of food and wrapping paper all over the ground, fish and chips, bread, drink cartons etc., etc., an absolute disgrace to our country. And later on when people started leaving I noticed a car drive off revealing that they had been putting all their litter under the car all day. Completely shameful. What's wrong with us? I've never seen such behaviour or anything like it at any airshow anywhere else in the world. At Oshkosh for instance at the end of the flying display each day the commentator asks everyone to take their 'trash' home, or put it in the bins, but he doesn't need to, everybody does it as a matter of course, they don't need reminding, the whole airfield is completely devoid of litter.

One of my absolute pet hates is litter ,I just don't get it at all.in my younger days when I spent a good deal of time climbing/walking in Scotland and Wales and you would find litter at the tops of the hills ,bottles etc ,sometimes stuffed under rocks ,what get's me is that people will carry full, heavy bottles of drink all the way to the top and then, when the bottle were empty and relatively light ,would leave them up there ! If these morons enjoy walking in these wild places ,as they must ,why oh why do they then defile them ! Never had the same problem in Austria !
Don't know about those jets ,they spoil a very nice place
