1/144 GB ICM Tu-144 - complete
1/144 GB ICM Tu-144 - complete
The first of the last pair to be built for the GB.
ICM's Tupolev Tu-144. Looks an interesting kit. I think I'll build it with the canards and flaps all hanging out. The decals don't look great so I might get a replacement set.

I won't be building this for the GB. I can't be arsed any more.
I'll still build it and I might post the pictures when it's finished. Britmodeller have a airliner GB. I might do it for that.

Another quality contribution Dan. Some of us have tried to improve and enhance sections of the forum but you? I guess it isn't your style is it.

For what it's worth Derek, I enjoy your modelling contributions. The Tu-144 is one of my favourite types, and I hope you post the finished result on UKAR.
But your above post about not being "arsed" and today's ranting in the Bake Off thread do nothing for the forum, which we all want to be the best it can be.

The best it can be?
Not that I have to justify anything to anyone but I can't arsed anymore because I have virtually carried this current GB single handed with very little support from anyone. It was topped by some picky comments from someone who has contributed nothing to the forum and frankly it was the last straw. Constructive criticism is welcome from those qualified to provide it but I don't post my modelling to allow keyboard heroes their moment of glory.

It's summer, Derek. The modelling forum is traditionally slow.
If you took my tongue-in-cheek comment wrongly, then I apologise.

I don't build (to many photos to sort) but browse and was looking forward to this as seems rare to me
Re: 1/144 GB ICM Tu-144 - update
Derek i like the stuff you build, please continue putting them on here.. got a load of kits but just havent got anywhere to build them at the moment. Which is a sod. But I couldnt dream of making them to your excellent level.
Life's a piece of S*** if you look at it!
Re: 1/144 GB ICM Tu-144 - update
Now finished, I'll post the steps here.
Fairly easy start with two fuselage halves. I decided not to put the windows in as masking is a pain and there were no window decals.
The wing sections are also straightforward. The elevons are seperate parts.
The intakes and engine assemblies are the most complex but the fit is very good.
The wing assemblies complete.
With the fuselage attached. Again a pretty decent fit.
The twelve elevon actuator parts were cut and bent to the right angle to show the elevons drooped.
The landing is quite complex with lots of wheels. The fit is good though and the paint thickness was enough to make the fit awkward.
After a first spray of Halfords appliance white.
After a coat of light aircraft grey on the undersides, sitting on its gear, ready for decals.
Complete. I used after-market decals, Aviadecals AVD144-07, finished as CCCP-77110 as it appeared as Paris in 1977.
With the Concorde I finished the other month.
There is something impressive and rather sad about the Tu-144, a great looking aircraft but not really very good at what it was designed for.
Thanks to those that posted their support. It is appreciated.

I've always had a soft spot for the Tu-144... I hope to see one in the static park or museum for my first time at MAKS 2017. you have done a great job on the set Derek plus the rest of the GB!

When I was there in 2012 ( where's that gone!!?!) there were 2 in one of the many "dumps" not open to the public but shots could be made ( ). I don't think they've put one in the static for a while.

Looks great.
What happened to the one that was part of a NASA project a few years ago? Is it still in good order or left to rot again?

That project, amazingly, is getting on for 20 years ago now. There's an excellent documentary on the Tu-144 on YouTube, in which these NASA flights feature at the end: https://youtu.be/hkR8W1vt5jQ
Such a charismatic, if flawed, machine.

Awesome! Really tidy job. Love the Tu-144, lucky enough to have been on board the one on display at Spayer in Germany. Certainly an impressive beast!

Thanks for keeping this GB going. If things had been different, i would have been contributing, but never match the output and standards!

Don't think there is one at 'Speyer'..... but at Sinnsheim Technikmuseum it's on the museum roof directly in front of the Air France Concorde. Superb place which can take all-day to see properly!
