Likewise, will be my 11th year in Jersey this year. No doubt there will be some surprises along the way including I hope the UK debut of the SWAFHF Lansen's
Re: Jersey 2017
I am toying with a first visit to Jersey for this show but would like to know where the best photo opportunities for the flying display are to be found. Could one of the "regulars" give me an idea of the display line please (09/27 or slightly angled?) and where you need to be to get decent shots with a 100-400mm lens?
Any help much appreciated.

Re: Jersey 2017
I have only been once, and that was 2016, for the flying display it seems that it is not ideal for photography. I gather there were other places you could watch from but those were not an option lats year due to restrictions. The sun is not in the best position from the viewpoint where most people seem to watch from. having said that I did get a nice snap of the Saab Draken which won me my first photography competition! so it's not all bad.
Re: Jersey 2017
I've been going for 11 year's now and no it's not the best venue for photography. If the sun's out it can be a real pain and the castle is out of bounds post Shoreham.
They have the static display at the airport on the Wednesday afternoon, throughout Thursday and Friday morning, and this is more photographer friendly with the sun behind you and a nice mound area. You can get close to the aircraft as well which is always a bonus.
It's a show I always enjoy as it delivers more unusual types than most UK venues, which a big chunk of the participants coming from mainland Europe and Scandinavia.

That's the advantage and being outside of the control of the CAA, no silly restrictions on foreign DA holders.

Afternoon all,
Guys this is my first time attending the show in a non-working capacity, I know the sun is an issue here but can anyone advise me of a good place to shoot the air show from? Maybe if someone also knows how the display datum sits in the bay?
Thanks in advance

Re: Jersey 2017
If you take the Swedes out its not that good especially as there are no Reds this year.
I am sure there will be more surprises to come.

Breguet Alize?
Fouga Zephyr?
Baltic Bees?
I'd say it's pretty good! Probably better without the Red Arrows.

If you take the Swedes out?? But they're not out.... they are very much in - an opportunity (provided they all make it) to see all the SWHF jets at one show outside Sweden. Also, fair play to the organisers for getting another jet team to replace the Reds (fresh from MAKS).
Hope the Alize makes it this year.

Trying to decide whether to go to this one, so all help appreciated.
Is the sun really that terrible for flying display shots?
Can you shoot takeoff and landing as well as display or are they too far apart?

Elizabeth castle was a good place to watch the show from, with the sun behind you: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=62942
AFAIK due to new CAA rules since Shoreham this castle is out of bounds during the show so you are now confined to the beach: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=74804

You can use suncalc.net to see the position of the sun during different times of the day.
A quick look on Google Maps shows that Jersey Airport is too far away from the beach to see landings and take-offs. However, the airport does have a static park during the show, here are the opening times taken from their website:
2017 Static Display - Opening Times
Wednesday 13 September - 2.30pm to 7.00pm
Thursday 14 September - 8:00am to 9:30am and 5.30pm to 7:00pm
Friday 15 September - 8:30am to 11:00pm

Weather is not terrible http://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=74830&p=748524&hilit=jersey#p748524 It does depend on where you posistion yourself.
Display is over St. Aubin's Bay, so no take off of landing shots.
