Wales Nation Airshow 2019

Post by Brevet Cable »

First display item announced....the RAFAT.
Which isn't bad, given that the Wales Online news website has been saying for the past week or so that they definitely wouldn't be participating this year!

Still never been, despite it being my local airshow. It's either clashing with Yeovilton, I'm working that weekend (although I don't mind that as some of the acts will be based at CWL, where I work), or I just can't face battling the hordes getting onto Swansea Bay just to see a Tutor fly past a mile away.

Not much in the short term I don't think. I'm not entirely are what the plans are for St Athan - talk of it being used more for freight, or perhaps the GA stuff will go over there?

Swansea outdoes Fairford again!

http://www.walesnationalairshow.com/airshow-news/airshow-after-dark/

For the first time, hot air balloons and night-flying aerobatic teams will be gathering to party over Swansea as part of the Wales Airshow weekend.
(snip)
“The hot air firing balloons will be spaced out and tethered along Swansea beach and we’ll also have the Fireflies Display Team – two display aircraft with fireworks firing off their wings – doing a night-time stunt show.

“Also planned is a night-time jump by the Tigers parachute display team, one of our Wales Airshow regulars.”

Chinook is based at Swansea for the weekend.
Based in Cardiff seem to be the Reds, Typhoon, BBMF, Tucano and T-33.

Enjoyed my first Airshow at Swansea today. The huge bay is a great venue for a seaside show and some of the displays really benefit from this setting. I thought the Typhoon was a really punchy display and improved on when I saw it at Cosford. I was sat quite far back up the beach toward the promenade but even there the Reds were pretty close at times. Whilst distant loved the T33 and can't recall seeing one for a while at least. Surprise today were the Fireflies. I have never bothered to watch these before and used them as toilet time but they were really good and suited this type of show.

I'm a fan of the seaside show and certainly miss Dawlish on the calendar. Glad I made the effort and would certainly go again. I definitely recommend going by train to avoid traffic even if an idiot onboard gets you stuck in Cardiff for 30 minutes as we waited for the Police!
