Bodø, Norway - Open house and ACE spotter's day

Post by Agg »

2019 marks the 75th anniversary of the Royal Norwegian Air Force, and the 25th anniversary of the Norwegian Aviation Museum in Bodø, unfortunately there are no big shows planned to mark the occasion, but the base in Bodø will host an "open house" event on Saturday the 25th of May, and entrance to the museum will be free of charge for the entire weekend.

While there's still not a lot of information available on the program for the "open house" the RNoAF has promised participation from all current types in the inventory (including the AW101 and the F-35), as well as participation from the participants in the Arctic Challenge Exercise, icluding Mirage 2000, Rafale, F-15, Typhoon and Gripen. civilian participation includes the Biltema Spitfire Mk.XVIe, the two Vampires from the Norwegian Air Force Historical Squadron and the resident F-104D Starfighter.

There's also going to be a spotter's day for the Arctic Challenge Exercise on the day before the "open house" (the 24th).

Certainly sounds like an interesting event, one to consider.

USMC F/A-18s taking part in Arctic Challenge, would be nice to see a pair of them.

Now that I didn't know, do you know where they'll be based?

Not confirmed yet, but my guess would be both. As another side note, what's left of the RNoAF F-16 fleet is now based in Bodø, so I'd expect some Viper action as well ;)

Is there an active web link to this event yet. Or anybody have email contacts ?

Also any advise from those who have attended similar events at Bodo.
Being north of Arctic Circle sunset will be about midnight, does flying continue into late evening ?
Is the event is held on the civil (north side) ramp ?
What is public transport like from airport to city center ?

Thanks in advance. Anybody else attending ACE19 please PM me.

Paul

So this turned up today - F-16BM "691" has been given a new anniversary paint scheme - I can't say I'm a huge fan yet, but at least it's something different. She'll participate in a couple of fly overs tomorrow in honour of "Veteran's Day" and then go to Bodø where she'll participate during the "Open House".

Any confirmation for the AW101 ? Static or flying ?

Thanks ;)

Both ;)

I had a chat with one of the organizers earlier today and he confirmed that the ANG F-15s will be flying during the "open house" event.

No website, but there's a Facebook event that gets updated once every blue moon, it's in Norwegian, but you can find it here - https://www.facebook.com/events/2181670291894968/

No problem, feel free to ask if you have any other questions. Are you doing the spotter's day as well?

I don't think so for the spotter's day. Because I am interested especially by helicopters, and also I need more days off :)
A last question : Where the public will be located ? The sun will be behind ?

I'm not sure to be honest, I got an answer, but the problem is that I have no idea where the area he mentioned is located

I'll sniff around a bit more ;)

Okay, so from what I've been able to gather, the public area will be around the ABDR (Aircraft Battle Damage Repair) field - I'm not completely sure where that is, but it is on the military side, so you should have the sun at your back.

No problem :)

Those of you who've read my post over in the "Aviation Waffle" already know, but yesterday the team behind the Starfighter announced that she will not be flying any time soon, and probably not at all this year, due to the rocket packs in the ejection seat having reached their expiration date - which means she won't be flying in Bodø next weekend. I was hoping she'd at least do a taxi run, but it's been confirmed now that she'll only be on static.
