Trooping the colour flypast 8th June
Re: Trooping the colour flypast 8th June
Is June 2nd going to be the main flypast for the whole Jubilee?
70 planes?
70 planes?
Re: Trooping the colour flypast 8th June
More likely to be 1 aircraft for every 10 years going by previous experiences ...
...Rad shutters auto.
Re: Trooping the colour flypast 8th June
do the RAF have any operational aircraft built in the 50s / 60s?
I'm guessing the Rivet Joint and AWACS are from the 70s?
(and the Hawk T1)

Re: Trooping the colour flypast 8th June
The RAF Rivet Joints were all originally ordered as KC-135As by the USAF in 1964.
Re: Trooping the colour flypast 8th June
The AWACS were built in the 1980s, and are no longer in service (although they still fly on occasion to keep them flyable)

2019 would have been my last Trooping flypast I was going to see (and didn't of course) as I was moving away from living close to RAF Northolt, even though the route past my flat had become largely obscured by tree growth in the 20+ years I'd lived there.
There were some memorable ones back from my childhood and teen years, flying over the house I grew up in nearby.....the mass Lightnings and Concorde prototype in 1969 sticks in the memory, and most of the 70's involved multiple Vulcan's in formation.
I have a grainy shot taken with a 110 camera taken from outside my late parents house of the last Trooping flypast to feature the Vulcan in 1981, with a single formation of 3 x Vulcan, 4 x Phantoms & 4 x Jag's......none of this spread out in small groups strung out with large gaps in between...of recent decades.

I suspect the BBMF's Chipmunks must have been built in the early 1950s.
Re: Trooping the colour flypast 8th June
i don't know that I've ever seen a VC-10 in the air. Only ever went to London to the Motor Show at Earls Court in the 60s / 70s and was more concerned with looking for 747s. I presume Vc-10s never used Gatwick?
Have watched many TTC flypasts but can't remember which years now prior to the VC-10 withdrawal

About once a year a VC-10 from Brize would land at Finningley so the plastic Sargent's, sorry trainee Sargent loadmasters could have a look around. In the afternoon it took us civilians on a flight around the countryside. Flown to Cyprus and back several times on an RAF VC-10 even doing the Cyprus/Brize run in a Belfast. Sorry to rub it in .

it's the 2nd (which I presume is the actual 70th anniversary of HM's coronation)

Ooh, I didn't realise this thread was a few years old, I thought it was specifically for this year.
2018 was my last time at Trooping the Colour, it was quite poor but RAF100 made up for that a few weeks later. Hopefully with a massive Jubilee there is a lot of aircraft at it.

Hopefully, but this is the RAF. There's less aircraft now, both by type and quantity. Some of the formations that have previously been done are not possible now. At best, a typhoon 70 formation is possible with a few extra groupings, likely spread so far apart that you're twiddling your thumbs by the time the Red Arrows make their appearance. We may be better off asking if the USAF can put in an appearance. I think they fly more in UK airspace than the RAF.jasonT1981 wrote: ↑Sat 15 Jan 2022, 7:09 pmOoh, I didn't realise this thread was a few years old, I thought it was specifically for this year.

Re: Trooping the colour flypast 17th June
I'll rekindle this thread now the Coronation is Tuesday's chip wrapper.
do we think it will be a repeat of the planned event from yesterday?
(it's the 17th BTW if the OP can alter the date)

Starting a new thread would have been a better (i.e. less confusing) plan.

the title still says the 8th, and is 3 years old.
