Given that we are now seeing the Viggen and Draken at various airshows in the UK, my wish would be for these two beauties for next year. Its not an unreasonable wish - the only stumbling block might be the willingness of RIAT to pay for them.

We're seeing them at various seaside shows, isn't that the stumbling block?

Italy are very shy with their AMX, but any or all of the below would be pretty 4-toast:

I think they need some of the major acts like those at this weekend's Sanicole & Kleine-Brogel airshows.......

Team Raven
The Fireflys
Otto the Helicopter

I'm sure these shows will be criticised in the same terms as RIAT is Brevet... or... maybe not...

Also those AMXs look great.

Well no.

They don't claim to be the 'World largest military airshow' :dunno:

Neither does RIAT these days...…

And I'll admit that the list I posted was in the hope of attracting the pavlovian "They shouldn't be at RIAT" posters who miss the fact that the seaside shows they believe those acts should be restricted to tend to have display lines the same distance ( or even further away ) from the crowd and often have longer crowdlines than at Fairford.

See below from Southport thread, seems money isn't the stumbling block

Got to sit in most of the aircraft, will post pictures later.

Regarding the Swedes - spoke to the team yesterday, what a nice bunch.
Sat in the Viggen, Tunnan and there support Citation as well as getting a free cap, patch and sticker.
They stated they had to remain high and far from the crowd which they didn't enjoy, they were not allowed to start display in formation and they were only permitted to use A/B on Y axis while exiting manoeuvre.
They also confirmed they got offered to chance to display at RIAT this year but they refused due to the fact they were only permitted to conduct straight, high flypasts - which is there own words is not there style.

My take is that if they're gaining popularity elsewhere in the UK then keep them away from riat, there's enough samey content already.

It was nice to see the Viggen again last weekend in blue skies after (for me) a gap of 15+ years, but the display was high and distant. It certainly didn't live up to expectations. Another reason for them to stay away.

I’ve seen eight individual SwAFHF displays this year (not intentionally it just worked out that way) inc the two seater Viggen three times and have to say the Southport display was the least impressive of all of them, on a good day though when the pilots are allowed to show off the aircraft’s capabilities I’d rank it one of the better displays I’ve seen anywhere this year.

I think a Viggen or Draken pairs display would work well at RIAT but I’d definitely agree if they won’t allow a full dynamic display it isn’t worth bothering.

I’d also agree RIAT has to be different to justify the price we pay and if not for the MiG and to a lesser extent the Harriers and Flanker I wouldn’t have gone this year. Next year if they get something loud and interesting with green wheels they’ll get my money again.

I have to admit, I really didn’t understand the point of your post. Although I’m familiar enough with your ‘style’ to know that you were almost certainly on a fishing expedition...

Anyway and as I’m sure you’re perfectly aware, at least two of the acts you named were specifically for the Sanicole night-show, at which they work extremely well. Quite how this relates to RIAT, either positively or negatively, is beyond me.

And if you’ve never been, Sanicole is a delightful event, with the added bonus of a spotter’s day at KB to let you see the aircraft up close. Wish I was there this weekend...

Damn...I'll have to try and make it less obvious in future!
Not for many years, but yes, I've done Sanicole several times back in the '80s, along with various other airshows & 'open days' at other airfields/bases ( it was a case of "what's going on in the area" when I was over there at the time )

Does anyone think that there is any chance of the US navy super hornet ever making a return to these shores for RIAT?

Not unless the Swiss Air Force are politically driven to a semi-final 'shoot-out' for their Legacy Hornet replacement? :dunno:
(After the F-18 'cracks' causing the premature cessation of Axalp, maybe sooner than later!)

Well it is Farnborough next year so it's a possibility.

The blues schedule for next year is already released. Not that it can’t change, but they’re already flying all 6 weekends before air tattoo at the moment.

And I’ve always thought that there’s just no way for them to change their show enough to fit the UK regs...they overfly the crowd a LOT during their show...and their sneak pass breaks every reg that applies to it.

More of a fantasy list than wish list but here goes... all flying...

B-1
U-2
F-18F Superbug
UK F-35B (lightning marked)
Qatari Rafale
Slovakian Mig-29
JF-17
August 1st (J-10)
Turkish Stars (F-5)

Red Arrows / August 1st joint formation
If Italians send similar numbers as last year, all Italian aircraft in formation.

I'm fairly sure that right now the whole USAF would like to see a B1 flying!
PS:- U2's fly most weeks at Fairford just now. Go visit & avoid the Crowds!
