Probably my favourite image I took in Japan outside of the Phantoms. Just perfect timing of these two girls in kimono at the colourful shrine.

I've not done much non-aviation photography this year.
However I did tick off a bucket list item and went to the Scottish Osprey nests to watch these wonderful birds. Here is a long range crop taken hand held of the mother on the nest. Really made me smile when this shot worked.

A quiet year but I did manage to make it to Silverstone on a few occasions, one being the penultimate round of the BTCC. Wet and slippery conditions made for an amazing day's racing on the Sunday with a nailbiting last round at Brands Hatch a few weeks later.

Landscape photography has become an ever increasing passion over the last couple of years, and one soon becomes obsessed with Iceland... Taken at Skógafoss back in March

I've arguably done more motorsport events in 2019 than I had airshows and other aviation events, including actually finding time to do a bit of racing, #FlybeKartingChampionship.
Arguably my favourite photo of the year had to be the British GT season finale at Donington Park, with Nicki Thiim giving out plenty of donuts at the end of the 2-hour feature race in his Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT3.

From the many I took on our Lake District holiday, I liked this one.

It'll have to be one of my wildlife exploits, going to go for this Marbled White taken after sunset near Guildford in the Surrey Hills. Kneeling down in a grassy meadow is itchy, scratchy and spiky. Would not recommend...

Horse Guards, London.
When the kid held the camera up for a selfie, the Police horse lowered its head to get in shot and raised it again when the kid lowered his phone.

For the first time ever, I spent Xmas and New Year abroad as the kids were with their mum's family on the South Coast. And while Santa Claus may not have delivered much on Xmas morning, the view from my apartment in Santa Cruz (de Tenerife) certainly did...

Not my 'best' photograph of 2019 necessarily, but this picture best summarises my favourite day of last year.

I've seen and photographed Black Redstarts on and off for many years in Britain but this male at Shoreham Fort on a sunny day last winter was a cracking bird and particularly accommodating.

Julie and I went to Tuscany . We went to the Marble quarry at Carrara, where Michelangelo obtained the Marble for his statue of David, It was also where the car chase scene was set in Quantam of Solace.

Just one image? Hm.
This picture was taken on 5 June at Arromanches-les-Bains during the D-Day 75th commemorations. The ramp, where on the days after the invasion was extremely busy with vehicles driving onto the artificial harbour, was empty but for this one uniformed soldier, whom I managed to unknowingly photograph on a couple of occasions on this day, just stopped and pondered, leading to this picture. It was difficult to capture since Arromanches was absolutely mobbed, and less than a minute after I took the shot, the ramp became crowded with people and the guy faded away into the crowd, so this was truly a lucky shot. The brooding sky above lent atmosphere to the whole day.

Thompson led his platoon in an attack against the nearby bridge spanning the Maas River, which was defended by German forces supplemented by two 20 mm flak guns, one on the near side of the bridge and one across the river. The platoon opened fire on the German forces, killing four. Two trucks of German soldiers arrived on the scene, but they "showed no desire to fight... [and] ran away". Thompson's platoon destroyed "electrical equipment and cables that they expected were hooked up to demolitions", and their bazooka operator destroyed the nearer flak gun, permitting the establishment of a roadblock on the bridge while waiting for the remainder of the 82nd Airborne.

I was lucky enough to get tickets to my first Ashes Test match at Edgbaston and Old Trafford back in the summer of last year. Unfortunately both of my Day 5 visits resulted in a Aussie victory but the atmosphere at Old Trafford was incredible. I can only imagine what it must have been like at Hedingley!
