With no airshows this year i'm hoping to do something like a 'camping tour' of Air Museums when times allow. Newark will be one of the top museums on my list, and i'll be more than happy to pay for advance tickets!

That's good news NAMUpdater.

I live a few hours drive away but plan to make the trip to the museum as soon as you re-open. With Zoos and Theme Parks opening in July, very much hoping it won't be long now!
I emailed my MP last night and suggested that industrial and aviation museums meeting guidelines should be allowed to open, following the zoo announcement. I suggested the opening would add educational opportunities for parents home schooling.

He has responded positively - get emailing folks.

Some interesting feedback from both of you that I am happy to respond to.

The idea of advanced ticket is something that is being discussed, but the cost and implications of trying to build a new system right now may mean that we don’t follow this route. However, I will feed the comments back into our internal discussion processes.

Since the lockdown was announced I have personally completed at least 10 different Government, local council and trade association surveys. In everyone I have advocated that individual sites should be allowed to manage their own arrangements, rather than applying a sector wide ruling.

One of the first emails I sent after the museum had to close, was to the MP for Newark, making the very point of not adopting a one –size fits all approach. In fairness the Office of the Rt Hon Robert Jenrick MP have been fantastic in keeping us advised and asking for occasional updates, on how we are coping etc.

So yes, people should try and contact their MP and lobby for similar outcomes.

We are keen to hear whether or not people are likely to visit us when they’re allowed to do so. This will form a key part of the process of trying to understand what we are likely to face when we un-furlough more staff and get ready to re-open – our Twitter feed now has a poll running to ask those basic questions; please have a look and record your thoughts.

In a similar way I am happy to try and answer relevant questions on here!

I will aim to visit in the first month. Could you arrange a phone based booking system - call and book on a Monday for a Tuesday visit for example.

That's good to hear and as we get things started again hopefully I might be around.

I will feed in the suggestion about the telephone booking system, and report back on what systems are eventually implemented.

Last Saturday was the first weekend for the Order & Collect purchasing in the Shop and I was on site all day - people were turning up and couldn't seem to understand that the museum itself was closed. Many of those were casual visitors just hoping for the best, and this is one reason why we may struggle with a pre-booking system; but let's see what my fellow trustees think!

On a day that has seen a reasonably successful re-opening of the Museum Shop we now have a disappointing announcement to make that we have taken the difficult decision to cancel the Autumn 1940s Weekend on Sat 3 & Sun 4 October, 2020 - sorry folks!

During lockdown our munitions & armaments collection has been significantly enhanced by a generous donation of items from 5131 RAF Bomb Disposal Squadron, the final item was collected & delivered to site this morning by Gillivers Haulage, a captured Silkworm cruise missile!

This will now 'welcome' visitors to the site when they're able visit the museum from Weds 8th July; Museum Shop still open this weekend for anyone wishing to partake in some retail therapy!

The museum enjoyed its first day back open after the lockdown closure. We’d like to send thanks to everyone who helped make it happen and those who visited; a quick debrief has been completed and we’re looking forward to opening at 10am on Thursday.

Especially nice to report some great post-lockdown ‘Retail Therapy’ in the Museum Shop!

We have a poll running on Twitter so I thought it might be worth asking the same questions on here:

We've noticed that Car Boot Sales are back plus an antique event on Vulcan Way so here's some genuine market research for a possible outdoor Aeroboot/Aerojumble in September 2020 would you?

I hope that your event goes off OK TT and any feedback would be appreciated - not sure whether track & trace would apply to such an outdoor event.

Happy to have provided some assistance about how NAM was handling its track & trace obligations to Theo!

More evaluation work is now being undertaken into the possibility of hosting an outdoor Aeroboot/Aerojumble aviation sale on the western end of the museum’s Southfield Site – the date being considered is Saturday 26th September 2020.

The sale will be totally separate from the main museum site and its one-way system, there will but a toilet unit and a catering unit; so such delicacies should be available.
