I've heard that once they received them, it turned out that the Dutch ones were generally in worse condition than their own ones.......capercaillie wrote: ↑Mon 22 Jun 2020, 5:07 pmI thought they'd got them for the long run as the Dutch ones were some of the last built.

FAF reckon that can eek out the remaining fleet of Alpha Jet use for PdF until 2035.......DOUGHNUT wrote: ↑Wed 17 Jun 2020, 10:12 pmThink it was on Scramble last week that the French have replaced the Alpha Jet with PC-21 turbo prop trainers now. Assume that means the last user of the Alpha Jet in France is the PdF. Anybody know a timeline to replace them. Assume they will use the new turbo prop ?
Reds and PfF will be more like 'vintage' aerobatic display teams by end of this decade

The Germans never had P-3s before they got the Dutch ones,Germany used to operate Breuget Atlantics.GeeRam wrote: ↑Tue 23 Jun 2020, 8:06 amI've heard that once they received them, it turned out that the Dutch ones were generally in worse condition than their own ones.......capercaillie wrote: ↑Mon 22 Jun 2020, 5:07 pmI thought they'd got them for the long run as the Dutch ones were some of the last built.
Re: Military aircraft retirements
The Czech Air Force this week retired their remaining Yak-40 transport aircraft. Another charismatic aircraft type gone from European skies.

Belgium
M-03 was the first Alouette III to be withdrawn on 11th August 2020, the other 2 (M-01 & M-02) will be withdrawn by end of the year
The B-Hunters of 80 UAV Squadron were started to be withdrawn from service on 28th August 2020. The squadron will get the MQ-9 in a few years

When do the RAF BAe146s go? I think they were put up for disposal recently.
Re: Military aircraft retirements
Cazaux are still using them as far as I know...DOUGHNUT wrote: ↑Wed 17 Jun 2020, 10:12 pmThink it was on Scramble last week that the French have replaced the Alpha Jet with PC-21 turbo prop trainers now. Re: Military aircraft retirements
French Navy have retired the Lynx a little early , a massive shame as 2 were painted up in lovely retro schemes- not as though the current scheme is bad! I'm sure Yeovilton would have bagged them, surrounded by barriers!!

Re: Military aircraft retirements
Not for a couple of years, the announcement was to test the waters and see if a market exists for them.... I think that was pre-COVID 19 madness In which case. I assume the oldest would be spares only. Not sure how old the pair they got in 2013 are
Re: Military aircraft retirements
As has been mentioned, not long left for German C-160s.
Also noted in other threads, RNLAF F-16 Tiger Squadron & Japanese Phantoms gone before the end of the year.
The Belgian Embraer fleet will be gone before the end of the year, too.
Still time for RIAT, fingers crossed it goes ahead. The fly-out date for the German Air Force C-160D, only operational with Lufttransportgeschwader 63 (LTG63, Air Transport Wing) at Hohn air base and the Wehrtechnische Dienststelle für Luftfahrzeuge 61 (WTD61) at Manching/Ingolstadt, is set for September 2021. So still ten months to go and to enjoy this aircraft that is already operational with the Luftwaffe since 1967.

Sources for both - Scramble. On 18 November 2020, the first Belgian Air Force Embraer was handed to the new owner. The transfer of a second aircraft is scheduled for December 2020 and the last two ERJs will be handed over by the end of December 2020. Two aircraft will perform their last flight in Belgian Air Force service on 23 December 2020.
To fill the VIP gap the air force has dry-leased two Falcon 7X aircraft, which have been delivered in April and August 2020. The Falcons, operated by 21 Squadron (Flight Liaison & Long Haul) at Brussels/Melsbroek, are registered OO-FAE and OO-LUM.

Re: Military aircraft retirements
They're on the wishlist and the poignancy of RIAT 2021 being the last chance to see them is understood by all involved.
In other retirement news; neither the German UH-1 fleet and Austrian SAAB 105 fleet will be flying by next summer. Another two classic types gone.
Cheers,
Peter

Current gossip regarding the UK economy and cost-saving suggests that the B373 Wedgetail purchase plan may be cancelled.
