If they buy anymore helicopters, they will be classed as a small airforce!

Wessexes - capital letter and no apostrophe. :nerd: Not sure they own the Wasp, someone will confirm.

Its all looking fabulous, hope they have the finances to be successful with it all. :thumbsup_tone1:

Don't want to be a party pooper and I'm sure it's just a typo but the original Instagram post says they could be purchasing them??

Excellent news.
Operating vintage aircraft of any sort is an expensive business. Other than airshow what income can these aircraft generate ?
Have military specification Sea King ever been used commercially on the UK civil register ?

I don’t know about “military spec” (i presume so), but the company HeliOps operate a pair (soon to be three?) of former RN Sea King Hu5s at Portland training Marineflieger Sea King pilots.

Interestingly, those Sea Kings are listed as “Associate” NavyWings aircraft, so perhaps that’s a positive sign of their preservation once their current contract expires.

As for other uses, it was reported in Flypast that Historic Helicopters had offered their machines to the Government for COVID-19 assistance!

Re-jumping this thread with news from a few days ago:

Absolutely bloody marvellous.

I’ve missed the whine/purr of legacy Lynx machines.

And, like London busses, North Weald’s one had a full ground run (with rotors) of both engines last week, too.

Permit to fly - great news. Very excited to see a Lynx again. #WillItLoop?

Classic. Helicopter. Airshow. - that’s what we need. That’s what we deserve.

Steady Tommy, you're on the cusp of expectation & hope there! You above all others should know that reality & wishes on UKAR are not encouraged. :joy: :innocent:
Here is a reply to one of my 'realistic' postings "Wow! The sense of entitlement in the above post is incredible." Be careful what you want, need or deserve!
PS:-I'm personally with you 100%. :fingers_crossed:

Haha, just in case anyone is taking me seriously (appreciate sarcasm/tongue in cheek comments don’t come across well online) - no, I don’t think we seriously “deserve” a classic helicopter airshow.

(But one would be absolutely belting, though).

Kemble tried for an event may years ago, the Sycamore was originally touted to attend but never made it, some years before it did get over here with some thanks to Mr Reoch.

There was a couple of Gazelles, the Swiss Alouette II, a Scout and a Brantly if I remember. Bit of a flop from what was hoped for but there is a bit more scope now.

Not a Westland helicopter, but a classic nonetheless, I'd love to see an RAF Griffin HAR2 (especially given the RAF SAR link) or Army 212 join the collection once they retire. I'd have thought they would be in demand lots for film work and look great still flying in their British schemes.

Sadly these cabs are still highly sought after across the globe, indeed the last two UK-based Bell 212 airframes have already been sold to a Canadian owner.

I guess we'll have to settle for the earlier UH-1H Hueys still flying in the UK and in museums (which we are lucky to have, mind) and Heli-Lift's 212 to represent the more modern iterations of the family, following the demise of the Draken/Cobham Helicopter Academy at Newquay.

Does anyone know if all is alright at Historic Helicopters? All seems a bit quiet, I hope first and foremost the people are alright, but the helicopters secondly.
