2019 Chino Airshow-Warbird heaven

Post by PeteFenwick »

Well rather late but in these Coronavirus lockdown days I thought it may be nice to post some pics from the Chino Airshow from last May.

For all you warbird lovers it is amazing-where else can one see such a variety of warbirds, albeit generally American-4 P-47 Thunderbolts, 2 P-38 Lightnings, 3 P-40 Tomahawks, 3 Sea Fury's, 2 Tigercats, 4 C47 Dakots, 14 P-51 Mustangs (3 were heavily modified racers), 3 T33 Shooting Stars, 2 B25 Mitchells, and loads of others-with the unique Seversky Guardsman and Boeing Pea Shooter. Luckily all in the California sun.

In no particular order-

They're a fab collection of images, Peter. One P47 would be amazing to see at an airshow but three, including two razor-backs, would be heaven. How is the light direction at Chino? From what I've seen on SunCalc one is shooting into the sun for most, if not all, of the day. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,

George

George-you are correct that photography can be a challenge in that the main runway in use is east-west and spectators are to the north. However most of the warbirds fly a dog leg curved display so in the afternoon (which is when the flying takes place) one can get pretty good pics.

Have PM you as hoping for some insight on Avalon-thanks

So many treats for UK spotters - the Dauntless and Privateer in particular for me. Great stuff!

What a gathering, but that Privateer just stands out head and shoulders. What a machine!

- what can one say...multiple examples of many great aircraft, particularly the "two" Tigercats. ( real rarities-), as well as the SBD, the pre-war pair and P51A -probably the nicest looking of the many versions. Good on you for posting- as we're waiting for 2021 now! Ronoz
