If it goes ahead, it will be the 50th anniversary of the 1st Air Tattoo, so I imagine something of a theme will emerge along those lines!

So, was anyone on UKAR at North Weald in 1971? What aircraft were in attendance and could, in theory at least, any of them be welcomed back?

I am going to guess the BBMF were there, along with other warbirds. Perhaps also present were Jet Provost, Hunter, Gnat, Chipmunk, B-52 (is the runway long enough?) and I'm sure there were others that there are still flying examples of.

So maybe a centre piece flypast that showed off as many of the original participants as are still flying today would be fun?
Rather than just randomly guess, no there was not a B-52, you could look it up! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
I could, but why break the habit of a lifetime?

North Weald 31st May '71.
Not a complete checklist as such but:
RAF Lightning, Phantom, Nimrod, Belfast, JP Gemini Pair.
Ray Hanna's Spitfire IX
Austrian S-65OE
4 x Danish Drakens
2x F5A - RNoAF 332 sqn
Dutch F-5
81st TFW - 4 x F-4D flypast
Danish C-47 K-686
Patrouille de France in Fouga Magisters

It also hosted the Formula One Air Race for the Duke of Edinburgh Trophy; sadly Owl Racer G-AYMS crashed on the way home with the loss of it's pilot.

Normally, displays for RIAT are announced a bit later. What you can say is which aircraft will NOT come, due to flying elsewhere.

Not exactly true. 2017 the USAF Thunderbirds announced at ICAS. And 2019 the F16 demo was announced elsewhere on RIAT weekend then changed closer to the date.

Probably won't hear anything but you never know

I have just been on ICAS' website and RIAT is listed as the only Airshow on the council, outside of America. does anyone else thinks this confirms at least one US display team will be present at RIAT 2021?

Very Unlikely the thunderbirds or blue angels will show up (especially the blue angels) but I would love to see one of those teams next year

maybe there is a reasonable chance of the A-10 demo as it is the only one we haven't had yet.

Assuming this is a "dream/fantasy" list, I would like to request a flying display from Art Nalls Sea Harrier. Not sure if Art still operates it, but its out there somewhere. And I'd like him to apply the 899 squadron motif to the Fin beforehand. If not that, I would like a flying display from the only Mk27 Seafire that lives stateside. Thank you please.

There is a flying example based in Norway but I believe the ejector seat is currently broken, so it won't be flying anywhere until that's fixed at least.

They had a problem with the manufacturer of the seat. That company doesn't want to do business with civilian organisations. The Norwegians have circumnavigated this issue by transferring the seat to the Air Force (who allows the people from the F-104 to use it). I know the people that are trying to get a Dutch machine in the air hope to go the same route.
