Sunday 2 August – Drive-in Airshow (At the Movies)
Sunday 2 August – Drive-in Airshow (At the Movies)
The following has also been added to the Shuttleworth airshow webpage today, so assuming that will take the same format of the 18th July show.
Re: Sunday 2 August – Drive-in Airshow (At the Movies)
Tickts for this one are now on sale: https://www.shuttleworth.org/events/dri ... ow-august/.
Re: Sunday 2 August – Drive-in Airshow (At the Movies)
Think I will hold off on getting tickets for this one until I see how it goes next weekend and we also get a list of what’s going to be there.
Re: Sunday 2 August – Drive-in Airshow (At the Movies)
Numbers are very limited and the last one sold out within a few days, so be aware you run the risk of not getting a ticket if you leave it too long.
Re: Sunday 2 August – Drive-in Airshow (At the Movies)
Totally get it. Got tickets for the first one so hopefully should be an enjoyable afternoon. Be nice to get out with the camera and never been to Old Warden before so looking forward to it!!
Re: Sunday 2 August – Drive-in Airshow (At the Movies)
I just missed out on tickets for the 18th July show so I decided to buy my tickets for the August Drive In early. I've never been disappointed at the Shuttleworth and even if its 'home based' aircraft only it will still be a pleasant day out and beats lockdown hands down. I'm looking forward to it already.

Normal sized pitches are now sold out for the 2nd August

Re: Sunday 2 August – Drive-in Airshow (At the Movies)
OK,so what happens if you do not own a car, access denied, even if you have purchased a ticket on line, social discrimination?
Re: Sunday 2 August – Drive-in Airshow (At the Movies)
Why on earth would you purchase a car ticket for a drive-in airshow if you don’t have a car?
Re: Sunday 2 August – Drive-in Airshow (At the Movies)
Wouldn’t call it social discrimination, I would call it a silly decision when this is their only option to gain back some funds to keep these planes in the air that we love watching and not confined to a museum?
Re: Sunday 2 August – Drive-in Airshow (At the Movies)
Is the concept of a DRIVE-IN airshow really so hard to grasp?
Let me help you with that. You drive in. In a car. Then you are confined to a marked area beside your car, apart from access to toilets and a takeaway food and drink selling area. You don’t wander in randomly through the front gate on foot waving your ticket proudly. This allows the organisers to guarantee social distancing and in turn allows them to get permission to run the event in the first place.
This is not ‘social discrimination’, nor is it ‘a silly decision’. Without these restrictions in place there would be no airshow. As in, there is *no airshow* anywhere else in Europe at the moment.
As a concept, it really isn’t that difficult to understand, is it?

There are options for Motorbikes and larger vehicles I.e. motorhomes, and these have correspondingly sized spaces which are priced accordingly. Currently no one has been able to find an adequate solution to pedestrians at the airshows to ensure their safety and ensure social distancing guidelines are adhered to. As soon as the government restrictions allow airshows will I'm sure return to normal but sadly this is the only way it is possible currently.
Do you live close by to be able to walk in? It would actually be interesting to see how many people did this prior to the current conditions?
These are my opinions as an individual and are not to be taken as official statements from either the Shuttleworth Trust or the SVAS.

The silly decision I was referring to was the buying of a ticket for a drive in airshow without a car. Not sure why you have picked up on that. I’m totally with you on this one!!!Mike wrote: ↑Fri 24 Jul 2020, 12:32 amIs the concept of a DRIVE-IN airshow really so hard to grasp?

What about if you arrive on a push bike booked in to a motorbike spot??
I've not done this - but does it raise a bit of ambiguity?

Re: Sunday 2 August – Drive-in Airshow (At the Movies)
I would check with the organisers before buying a ticket just in case but interesting point, tried to have a look to see if there was anything on the website just to confirm and all tickets are now sold out so it's a mute point but I'll try and get some confirmation.
Just to confirm ALL TICKETS COMPLETELY SOLD OUT.

Great to hear that it's another sell out. If this 2nd show is anything like the 1st then a great time will be had by all. It's really brilliant to see Shuttleworth being such trailblazers and leading the way in restarting airshows. Clearly some of the early pioneering spirit so beautifully preserved in the aircraft is being represented by the organisers too.

So heartening to me that enthusiasm is high enough for airshows that this show can sell out without a participation list. Admittedly, numbers will have been capped, but it brings a smile to my face!

I'm guessing the Jetstream is G-NFLA from Cranfield, as it did a mini display at Old Warden a couple of weeks ago?
