Cottesmore RIAT 2000
There was a slight air of nervousness in how good the Air Tattoo would be away from its established home in the Cotswolds, but we needn't have worried. Cottesmore handled two large shows with aplomb, hosting many gems as I'll try to show as I build up the posts. 2000 attracted some fabulous types with a line up of B-1B, Tu22M and Mirage IV on static and a superb range of Hercules variants. I'll kick off part one with some UK types including the last time I saw Snoopy in service before they butchered it and turned it into bean cans.

What a great start Paul, I'm local to that area and remember being so excited that Cottesmore was the chosen venue. Keep them coming!

Lovely! I'd forgotten that snoopy had corporate logos applied to the tail actually. Best remember it without!
You're right, there was some trepidation around the move. Not least because from day one our expectations had been set by DBH that numbers would necessarily be down due to airfield capacity. The weather could have been better though, which is a shame.
Great thread Paul, keep them coming.

Re: Cottesmore RIAT 2000
Cheers guys, Weather was great for three arrival days in 2000 but the turned decidedly cool and the north easterly wind clagged in the airfield over the weekend, I watched from the car park on Saturday, not bothering to go in, the flying display somewhat disrupted which was a shame some good work had gone into the BoB 60th anniversary demo with German DC-4 chased by the fighters. My friend Malcolm had accommodated me and my brother over the arrival days so many thanks to him, its a bit further than Fairford for me.
Some more arrivals.

Next section includes a smooth Brazilian, two different Italian F-104 units and the fabulous NATO 50th anniversary E-3 Sentry also seen at the 1999 Air Tattoo. 1999 and IIRC 2000 held the record of most nations at a Tattoo with 30 until beaten by the 2018 show which scored one more.

Re: Cottesmore RIAT 2000
Along with the Bulgarian An30 posted earlier, Ukrainian and Russian examples were present, as well as the French Open Skies C-130 and USAF OC-135B. The Ukrainian An72 was in the flying display albeit distant and not as energetic as in 1998. Tu22M3 was the star of the show again, must admit wish I'd seen the departure. Americans to post tomorrow.

These are great Paul, thanks for sharing. Did the TU-22 display?

Re: Cottesmore RIAT 2000
I well remember Cottesmore 2000. Very cold on the show days. The Ukranian Tu22 was in the static but the crew allowed the public to sit in the observer and pilot seats (and take pics) for a very modest contribution to their beer fund(?).
Re: Cottesmore RIAT 2000
Amazing stuff. Excluding the 2008 cancellation this is the only show I've missed since 1993, as I couldn't convince anyone to drive me there

Re: Cottesmore RIAT 2000
These are great. Still part of the glory days' era, but getting very close to transformation into the scene that we know now. There was so much to savour at this one. I regret that I missed it - grr!
As Pete says the Tu was static. To my knowledge Chris its only display in the UK was at Farnborough in 92. Correction welcome as ever.

Re: Cottesmore RIAT 2000
Thanks to all. Yes Chris, as with 1998 at Fairford the Backfire was static only sadly but a great beast to see coming in.
Last part of my coverage the USA entries, the Galaxy was in on the Tuesday, so first arrival for the masses Wednesday morning, the lovely ski Herc from the New York ANG in beautiful light, kicked off a great week. By the end of the arrivals on Friday the place was rammed, the Spangdahlem F-16s barely fitting on the taxiway before the end of the runway.

What a truly awesome set of images Paul, looks like halcyon days! Good to see that the tradition of the arrivals days being in glorious weather and the show weekend being slightly more inclement hasn't changed!
