A message from Nick Grey,
“Further to my last message informing you all of the pending relocation of Flying Legends I wanted to give you an update.
The FL team is working very hard to secure an alternative location to hold the much loved Flying Legends airshow.
IF we are successful and COVID 19 issues have resided by mid next year it will be our intention to hold the 2021 edition on SATURDAY 10th and SUNDAY 11th July, so whilst we are still not able to formally confirm, we wanted you to have our date’s ready for your diaries.”

Good to hear they’re very much hoping to stage an airshow next year and keep FL going.

Probably shouldn't be under the "Duxford airshows" sub section now...

Fair point, actually. Never even crossed my mind, I am so used to Duxford being the home of Legends.8674planes wrote: ↑Tue 22 Sep 2020, 5:24 pmProbably shouldn't be under the "Duxford airshows" sub section now...
Re: Flying Legends 2021 - 10th & 11th July (Provisional)
I've just moved the thread...strange for it not to be in the Duxford section. Good to hear some news about their plans though for next year.

TFC getting the first shots in in the upcoming Flying Legends vs IWM (and partners) summer 2021 warbird show battle.
It remains to be seen whether IWM will now go for two weekends later (24/25 July) - the weekend after RIAT - or possibly the weekend after that, or will attempt to pre-empt TFC by going for an earlier date.

It is indeed very interesting that TFC have stuck with 'their' dates, when the IWM wanting that slot seemed to be among the justifications for parting ways. We'll see how it plays out and in the present circumstances, I'll be so happy to see a show confirmed, that the dates will be a secondary concern.

Pure guess work but I would be surprised if NG did not have some options being negotiated whilst confirming the date for next year. It would indicate a certain level of confidence and, yes, sends a strong and positive message both to us fans and to IWM.

As someone who didn't pay attention to the politics from the fallout of Duxford vs Flying Legends, can you tell me, please. Where does the view Duxford wanted the summer slot to themselves come from? Has that been widely known in the Duxford show/member going community that Duxford wanted their own Warbird show in that slot or just speculation that they are going to do a July show?
I've seen they are making plans for their 2021 airshows, but haven't mentioned anything about dates in just a generic 'our 2021 Airshow season will be revealed in due course' press release.

Flying Legends to cease at Duxford
Sywell works for me. it's not much further (if at all) than Duxford.
will be interesting to see if Duxford try to put a show on that weekend

Probably the only likely option they had in reality.FlyingMachinesTV wrote: ↑Fri 06 Nov 2020, 10:04 amAnnouncement is live on their Facebook page now - it's Sywell Aerodrome
Its a much smaller site, with a reduced crowd line, so will be interesting to see what form the show takes there.

As long as Peter Mancus can sweep his camera around, he'll think all is OK. (If we can bring in the date clashes with RIAT, this one can be brought up too!)

It will be interesting to see how they deal with the business under the display area, as presume these will have to be 'cleared' of people..?
That a DPD depot, 2 car dealers, Sywell Grange and possibly even Northampton Shooting grounds...?
And as previously discussed, there is the parking situation as well.
However, I suspect it will all be a mute point, as I doubt many airshows will be taking place (other than perhaps Old Warden) next year anyway.

For those that can't watch the video or don't want to, it's Sywell, 10th-11th of July next year

Glad it has managed to find a new home. Never easy moving an airshow venue though, especially one established for so long at another venue. Just hope that 2021 allows this to actually happen.
Re: Flying Legends 2021 - 10th & 11th July at Sywell (Merged)
Indeed, can't think of many that have been successful (outside of RIAT)
Great Warbirds died as a result of loosing West Malling....the forced move to Wroughton just never worked for them.

Good news indeed if it does actually happen?
If Duxford do decide to hi-jack the weekend I think the actual line up will be the clincher for me with Duxford getting the extra points simply for its location and tradition. Still, at least it doesn't clash with RIAT (if even that goes ahead)
Only time will tell I guess.

I have, in recent years, given up on Flying Legends prefering to go, instead, to the Friday practice day. It will be interesting to see what arrangements, if any, are made for a practice day at Sywell. Normally that airfield is pretty unhelpful for enthusiasts.

As I live abroad how am I going to swing this one: Yes dear just going to a little airshow at Sywell not worth me flying back for a day as I am then six days at RIAT and as I am at Heathrow on the way back thought I would just go direct to Moscow for a week but I will be back in time for the Rammstein concert.

There is almost no chance Duxford will schedule a show on the same weekendkeithjs wrote: ↑Fri 06 Nov 2020, 4:40 pmGood news indeed if it does actually happen?
